Title: Instructor Boot Camp, Davilla, TX April 10-12
Post by: dragit on April 13, 2010, 07:06:58 PM
I want to thank Alonso1, Pop, Scout, Aromatic, DaleSP, Spitstickler, DoubleLL, andf Starfox for a great weekend.  I think a good time was had by all and I for one will feel more confident when working AS's.

DaleSP, I want to apologize for running over your rifle and dragging your shoot bag 300 yards down the AD/KD range (or whatever we are calling it now).  Although in my defense I asked if all was clear before backing up and all I heard was "Yes".  Man, that cordura bag was tough.  And I have to admit I am laughing my arse off right now just thinking about the look on your face when you finally caught up with us   !@#).  Your sure gave the staples in your target a beating  :---.

The steaks, pizza coffee and hot dogs were good and no one was hit by the clown bat &).  I am looking forward to working with you all in the future in TX and elsewhere.

Oh man, I hope this is some type of inside joke  :o.  I have always worried about doing this when shuttling people up and down the range....

No harm done - - When I told my wife about it I tried to show her where the tire clipped the rifle case, and I couldn't even tell which end it was on.  That bag was incredible -- It had 2 sets of eyes, electronic ears, 4 AR mags, 2 Marlin Mags, 2 Walther mags, 200+ rounds of .223, 200 rounds of .22 LR and 60 rounds of 7.62x54R, a camera and a stapler.  The only damage was the cardboard boxes the ammo was in.  Otherwise not a scratch.  I dusted off the outside and it's good as new.  I can highly recommend the Midway USA range bags!  I'm glad nothing got damaged, but I was half-hoping I'd have an excuse for a new Rifle case.

I had a great time and learned a lot.

It was a great weekend for sure and I learned a lot. I think I'd met everyone before except for Tnewty, and it was nice to get to know everyone a little better. As it's often said, it's always great to be in the company of Riflemen.

Thanks, Scout for your generous hospitality and the use of the range. It was nice to meet your family too.

Thanks Alonso for running the IBC. I always enjoy your sense of humor and really appreciate your dedication and common sense approach to all things Appleseed. Man, I've learned a lot from you and hope to get to spend more time at events with you in the future. When's that next trip to Anniston?

Pop, Thanks for coming up from Corpus to help out. Sorry you have had all the pickup trouble, but I know you'll get it sorted out. Maybe I'll see you in Shreveport in May?

Aromatic, Thanks a lot for the steel targets. We made sure to break the new one in with style. Monday afternoon we started on the 300 yard line shooting the steel as well as the D targets to verify all the information we'd just gone over for come ups and windage. Once we had that all dialed at that distance we moved back to 400. We had several hits on the 7" @ 400 yards from a couple of different ARs and then Alonso showed us how it was done with a M1 Garand. (Man, I love that rifle)

Now that is some good shooting (1.75 MOA  :---).  I wont ask how many rounds it took to get the hits ;).

It was nice to meet everyone at the IBC and even better to see the Texas crew growing.

Starfox and I had a great 4 day weekend. The place was a little slower, which was nice because I felt I absorbed more information.  Special thanks to Alonso, Pop, and Aromatic for your time and instruction- you guys set the bar high for us up and coming orange hats.
..:..  ..:..   ..:..

Dale- it was great meeting someone from the OK crew, starfox and I will make up there sometime in the near future.

I told starfox if my physics class in college was taught at the actual distance range, I would have done better!!!!  ;D

See you all on the trail.
