Title: What can we do to spread Appleseed in Ohio? -- Virtual Muster 2
Post by: MeanStreaker on March 16, 2010, 09:21:53 PM
A continuation from the first conversation on Virtual Muster 1 (http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=11698.0).

How do you think we can grow Appleseed in Ohio?

Are you a long time member of an online community like ARFcom?  The HighRoad?  OFCC?  BFA?  TheHighRoad?  FrugalSquirrels?  etc?

Ohioans For Concealed Carry has been extremely good to us from the beginning at getting the word out.  Every After Action Report and announcement on internet forums spreads the program like wildfire?

Do you have an active High Power league at your range that doesn't know about Appleseed?

What more can we do?

Got Appleseed Promotional materials in my hands today. BFA is on board with this, and currently 2 of us from the Minuteman list will be in attendance in Athens the 17-18th  ;D

I've posted a link to this sight, along with the Newsletter Promo Greg forwarded to me the other day. We have an "Upcoming Shoots and Events" forum and between Greg and I, we should be able to keep a pretty up to date list of Ohio Appleseed events rolling through there  ..:..

That's great para.  Thanks very much!  I'm sure Hoover told you this and much more, but we'll soon have a fuller Appleseed Ohio webpage where we'll link to supporting orgs like yours.

I think of Appleseed as the "wake up" program that clears people's heads of all the anti-American brain-washing they've been force-fed their whole lives, get them motivated and saying, "I have to do something.  What do I do?"  Then they go out seeking liberty minded groups.

So we're definitely complimentary.

I learned today that Para is an instructor.  I'd be interested in your feedback after your Athens visit, Para--and, especially, how we might better support other instructors in the area.

I'd love to set up an event just for Instructors if we think we'd get enough interest - CCW, NRA, etc.  Would be a really eye-opening event.

I agree.  On a related note of "special AS's", I know that a number of states have organized a woman's-only AS.

That's a great idea...

Now I'm thinking we might just have to organize a special "BFA AS" for ourt main peeps  O0

That's great, TS.  Thanks.  Do you think they'd let you hang up an Ohio schedule flier that you can find near the top here:

Thanks for your efforts!

Something else to consider... Maybe one of these shops would be willing to provide space for one of the vertical banners that I referenced in the promotions status update thread.  It would obviously take up a bit more room (3' w X 6' h), but would make for a great splash if they were willing.

And, since I'm "blue-skying" ideas here... I might be able to put my hands on one of those electronic photo-frames--that will automatically cycle across a number of photos.  There's lots of good shots that include (1) appleseed "kids", (2) women of appleseed, (3) Ft. Stewart and WSMR, and (4) a large number of other good photos.  I wonder if a shop might be willing to place one of those on a counter w/ a stack of state flyers sitting next to it.

MS,

GeorgeT and I talked about an all-ladies in Athens and a kids only as well. Also, want to get the BS out if I can find them, they went missing  :D eaglescouter was very helpful with BSA info. Couple other leads my brother (Ralph) is looking into for me, one which could put me into contact with approx 150-200 shooters from across the state ^:)^

I was going to mention a Scout function as well...and Nurse Ratchet beat me to it. We are organizing a shotgun shooting merit badge clinic for my troop and another here in Licking District, and incorporating the NRA/Winchester Marksmanship Qualification program into it. Just got off the phone with my contact from the other troop who's helping organize this. I mentioned AS, and he's interested already...  :))
