What a great weekend at The Fin, Fur and Feather Club in scenic and historic Northeast Connecticut. This is a new range for the Project Appleseed in CT and I couldn't have asked for a better cadre of students and instructor crew to help deliver a safe, fun, and informative shoot. Kudos to all for a job well done.
Temps were in the mid-30s to low 40s throughout the weekend. An overcast sky threatened some more white stuff throughout Day 1. And we did get sprinkled on, but these are hardy New Englanders. It wouldn't be a Winterseed without some snow! Day 2 brought more gray skies but also a little bit of sunshine as well as some snow.
11 shooters braved the elements on Saturday, to hear the Tale of our Forebears and learn the American Tradition of rifle marksmanship. 11 more Americans who have all stepped up a notch in my book. Two of these 11 are the future and earned their Youth Patches with pride that day. Francis the 5th, our Designated Marksman for the day, made sure those Redcoat targets couldn't get within 200 yards of us. Well done, son! And Hugh stuck with the demanding Course oF Fire throughout both days like the best of us, with nary a complaint and always improving throughout the day. Congratulations to you, Hugh!
Day 2 brought back 6 shooters - 5 returned from Day 1 and 1 new walk-on. Hugh came back for some more AQT work and our one-day walk-on, Larry, got caught up like I have never seen.
I was amazed by the quality of shooters we had this weekend. By the end of Day 2, we produced 2 new Rifleman. In addition, a number of folks were shooting in the high 190's and low 200's. I only wish we had more time to drag them over that line. This is an open invitation to attend Colebrook in March or Hartford in April. Most of you are just some dry fire practice and an Appleseed or two away from earning that patch.
CONGRATULATIONS go out to our two new Riflemen:
First up is Adam, who scored an exact 210 to qualify and then upped his score to the 220's. A member of the Air Force Reserve, he is shipping off to Basic and then overseas. Thank you for what you are about to embark on for us. And when you come back, there's an Orange Hat waiting for you...
And with a score of 212, Larry came in on Day 2 as a walk-on and got caught up pretty quickly. An experienced shooter, he was able to take our instruction and meld it with his own experiences. The results show and to his own surprise, Larry qualified towards the end of Day 2. Well done, Larry. Good shooting!
Thanks to crak for coming down (once again!) to help us out. CT in Appleseed would not exist without your help. TOMINCT, you are the quintessential Boots on the Ground. Thanks for the target line set-up and for a fine delivery of The Three Strikes. vernic82, spearheading the effort with The Fin payed dividends. Thanks to you, we have a new range in CT. I'm pleased they are considering holding another AS this year. And kfish, I hope your first time out as IIT was as easy as you made it look. You have a great command of the line and I'm looking forward to seeing you progress on the Road to Red Hat. Congrats to all our IITs - you all deserved your promotions.
Finally, thanks to The Fin, Fur and Feather club for providing top-notch facilities and a nice hot lunch served in the warm coziness of their clubhouse. It was a welcome respite and on behalf of Appleseeders in CT, we look forward to continuing our relationship with your club.
More pictures soon...

Anyone home? All I here is crickets up in here! ;D
Perhaps some more photos will stir up the convo...
Nice photo's Todd. Mother Nature also held off for the most part and the little she gave us just kept it interesting. Todd's report covered things well, the crew did a great job and the shooters hung in throughout. Several folks pushed RM real hard, Fran being one that comes to mind. Some dry firing and transition practice will make the difference. FWIW I believe all but one of the people attending were first timers. Great job by everyone, see you on the trail. Regards, Tom.
Once again, we had a the best of Americans in attendance!
Great to have 2 youngsters and a Reservist with us this past weekend!
