Title: AAR Albion NY Feb 27-28 2010
Post by: B9 on March 01, 2010, 11:10:22 AM
NY's first outdoor winter shoot.
Weather was better than we could have hoped for. Around 30 with steady snow Sat, 30, light am snow and a bit of warm sun Sun.
Three shooters Saturday, four Sunday.
Two are deploying very soon and wanted to get some Instruction to help them with their mission. One is joining the Air Force in Sept looking to get a jump on knowledge. Everyone improved over the course of the weekend. two 2nd time shooters, one from Burlington Flats Oct 09, one from Albion Oct 09.

Congrats to new Red Hat Bob "The Canary" gunville.

IIT Xena "Lizzy Borden"
Flashes that smile and somehow gets to join the shooters on the line with a Garand. On a line of rim fires the Bang followed by a Sponge Bob type giggle from said IIT was loud and clear.

Gunville, glad to see you at RED HAT status.......NY Applessed Family is a solid bunch.. and even in that tough weather you managed a productive shoot, a fine example of what a Rifleman is.....Well done.........

We like to make fun of the people from NY. You guys are seriously tough. You should take in a Florida AS in August to balance out your temperature. May result in cosmic dissonance if you don't.

He was Shoot Boss in Training for this shoot, plus Spanner wanted a picture of sgt in a Green Hat. You think IIT PC's are hard........
The hat was so everyone knew who to look to.

I was in my heated ice fishing hut keeping an eye on him the whole time.

This was an interesting shoot and I was glad to see the shooters get into their rifleman's bubble and put the cold aside.  I don't remember hearing a single complaint on the line about the cold snowy weather.

It was great to see improvement from all the shooters and with a little more practice and hard work I firmly believe that the rifleman patch will be within their grasp.

I may be up to a Florida shoot in the summer, I may be completely thawed by then.

Before I forget I want to congratulate Gunville on the Red hat.  As a gift I believe that we should change his name from Gunville to "The Canary."  It would be a much more fitting title and I know that he would be honored to be know as such.

I don't know what to say.  This will take some getting used to.

Meanwhile... who's going to shock us next?  Oh, I almost forgot...

Congrats to Gunville!  O0

This was A Very interesting shoot indeed,, Alot of things going on, being a Shoot Boss in Training [SBIT] my main objective was to stay focus, with all the issues at hand, and any that might spring up which there were a few, but nothing serious or that could not be handled.
I would like to Thank, B9, Gunville, M1Tanker, Xena, for their Professionalism, and Extreme Dedication to The Appleseed Project and for their hardwork to make this a productive shoot, even though there were not any 210 scores earned the seed is planted, and the students know what they have to work on for the next Appleseed event. That, is mission success to a great degree. If being a Rifleman were easy we would not have 50% of this program.
The weather was a little problematic But a Rifleman Perseveres, and they did, with no complaints.  With such a small group, they received alot of one on one instruction which they all appreciated, which also is good for instructors as well, keeps them busy.
I would also like to Thank, Mark P.[LBOTG] for jumping in a lending a hand with all the set up and instructing on the line, Thank You.
And NutFarmer for providing a roof over our heads for the weekend, and plowing the snow for us.  Thank You

And a Big Congrats to Gunville on the Redhat, well deserved my Friend, I enjoy your company and working with you, Hope we have more opportunities in the future to get our hands in the dirt [Snow] on the firing line,,

And I am honored to be apart of this program.  sgtrock

Who wants to explain to B9 that was an Out House he was in, and not an ice hut? (And that wasn't a heater..)

Sgt Rock ran a tight ship - excellent shoot-boss job - he just needs a bit more familiarity with 6.5 Carcano, and he'll be perfect.  Heck, his demo rifle has a match trigger.

I swear Xena was giggling from the recoil of the Garand... still, she put together a nice 5/8" group.  "

IMC" Tanker was so impressed, he gave her the Garand!! (I guess that means a road trip to CMP.)

I am humbled to trade my faded and dirty orange hat for a bright red one.  Humbled first because the respect I have for those I've met that wear one - to join their company is an honor.

It was colder in Burlington Flats last Fall. We lucked out given the weather we've been having. There was even a shiny disc in the sky for a while on Sunday.

On the snow shooters found "digging in" to be harder than it might seem.  This is challenging conditions to learn in, They all improved and had a good time.

 Mr.Willorith
Thank You for Chiming in here,, That doesn't sound like a bad idea during the winter months,, can get brutal at times, but Aug in Florida would put most of us in the shade with heat stroke  :sos:
Hopefully our paths will cross one of these days on the AS trail,, sgtrock

I just saw where sgtrock said gunville likes his picture taken. Only had to take the shot three times before able catch him without a scowl.

That wasn't a scowl; that was cosmic dissonance.
