Title: Range Pickup
Post by: DaveD on December 08, 2009, 05:37:45 PM
Picked up 30 cases off range last week.  Cases are nickle plated  ???  LC 223, date 06.

Have never seen these before.  Were these a test or special purpose load? Can they be reloaded?

Are they really nickle plated or just a "white metal color".
Tinned cases are "high pressure test" (proof) loads.

smwoody had a couple this weekend as well. They looked nickled to me.

I have a fair amount of nickled .38 and .357 in my brass stash, but I had never seen .223 LC like that either.

The ones I picked up were found on a police sniper range and were Nickel LC 05

I suspect these I picked up were fired by a County Deputy Sheriff  who is a member of the club.  They are definitely nickle.

Yep, I have reloaded some of those LC nickle cases in 223.....they seem to work just fine.

These LC 223 05-09 nickle plated cases are from barrier penetrating ammo.
Projectile is a 62gr bonded SP w/can. (Very similar to Hornady's TAP - Barrier)
These are intended for taking down targets through vehicle glass/doors.

Was given a few (live rounds) at the range a few weeks ago by a SWAT "sniper".  Shoots to same POI as LC SS109 (M855)

Nickle-plated boxer-primed cases; they deprime, tumble and size just fine, so I see no reason to not reload 'em.  May have to remove a primer crimp though.
