Post by: AZRedhawk44 on October 04, 2007, 07:38:37 PM
Anyone shot any of this stuff?

I just picked up a box of 50rds to give it a try.  Cost me $30 for the box.

Be careful.

Most Magtech I have seen has been from "slightly below average" to miserable.

All of it I have experienced has been handgun ammo.  A stuck bullet in a rifle would be a much larger mess than one stuck in a pistol barrel if not handled just right.

Would rate the 223 stuff as so so, but this goes back a couple of
years.   Function pretty good.  Mixed brass and varance of pressures.
All went click bang with not the greatest in accuracy in my weapon. ;D

Wow... you guys have had a lot different experience with Magtech than I have.   :o

I've been nothing but pleased with their handgun ammo, having bought between 500-1000 retail cartridges in 45acp, 44mag and .357mag offerings and then reloading that brass incessantly.  None of the "retail" loadings had any problems in regards to accuracy or reliability, and the brass has given me no trouble in reloading.

I'll go shoot some of this this weekend, out in the desert.  I wanna shoot some more prone prior to Appleseed here in PHX in another week.

Oohrah,

Click bang usually indicated hangfires as in the POF .303 British.

Did you really get hangfires from the Magtech .223 ammo?

Yep, two out of 250.   However, the last stuff I used was
pretty decent.   I felt it was kind of unusual also.   I have only
had it happen once before many years ago that involved oil
contamination.   I'm sure quality control is right up there now
as they would have been out of businesss.   They have pumping
them out in my area, and a few complaints can put the hurt to
any company.   I wasn't as concerned of the malfunction, as
the accuracy just did not work for me in this particular rifle.
Thinking back, it had to be around the time they first started up.
Yeah, I would continue to use their stuff.   Not for that rifle. ;D
