Title: AAR Sherburn LA Oct 10-11 2009
Post by: spmcpeek on October 14, 2009, 12:57:14 AM
We had a great but wet shoot this weekend.  Thanks to Sleepy Joe for coming on such short notice.  We had 12 shooters on Saturday with 1 earning rifleman and 5 shooters on Sunday.

Yes, thanks Joe and all the instructors who obviously care about this cause. Went into this weekend with an open mind, and learned a LOT. Thanks for all the instruction given....and the pacience shown. I look forward to doing this again. Motivated to be a better rifleman.

I couldn't make this one due to other commitments. But I'm looking forward to 2010.

By then I should have a proper iron sight LTR ready and the AR-10 will be up an running. Having patched with scoped rimfire and .223 centerfire it's time to step it up.

In the meantime I'm talking to some in my 3-gun competition circle about doing an Appleseed. I've worked with a hunter who had no clue how to use a sling. And when I'm at the range I offer assistance to anyone who obviously could use some help. Although I seriously doubt I'll ever become an Appleseed instructor, I pass on the knowledge to anyone who will listen.

FWIW I talked my boss into going to an Appleseed in Texas. Borrowed my guns and got Rifleman in the mud and muck. He has since joined the RWVA. Proud of him. He now wants me to build him a 10/22 like mine so he can practice.

The seeds have been sown.

Nice pictures spmcpeek.  The people of LA really have their act together.  Great turnout on Saturday although the rain scared a few off on Sunday  :'(.

cvinson, you made great progress over the weekend.  You did more to improve your marksmanship skills than 99% of Americans ever will.  Get yourself a USGI sling then practice getting into position and dry firing according to the six steps.  Thanks for coming out this weekend and bringing your son.

Thanks very much to Stephen, Sleepyjo and Aromatic!

Aromatic! Thanks very much for spending so much time with me on Ball and Dummy. Shooting that well after you pointed out my flinching, trigger issues was illuminating! Dry fire is my friend...

I know it is late, but here it is
Saturday the rain slowly came in, we stayed wet all day I am writing this from memory because I left the stat sheets in the binder at work.
We had a good turnout considering the forecast.  Nick "Aromatic" did a great job of telling the first strike. Then it was time for the shooting to begin. First the Red Coat then the 1" square targets. we got a lot covered then around 12:30 I did the second strike at lunch and then back to more training. Both Nick and Stephen called the line on Saturday, by the end of the day William "Billy" qualified as rifleman . Congradulations Billy. Sunday looked like a repeat of Saturday wheather wise. We got hung up in a big storm and arrived a bit late but the shooters were there ready for another day of training.  We shot 10 AQTs on Sunday them folks in Louisiana can realy hang in there.
I want to thank everyone involved with the shoot. Nick and Stephen did a great job and they both passed thier IIT progress checks congrats on the advancement.
Till next time be safe hopefully we will meet down the trail.
