Virginia Shooting opportunities for the Winter.


High Power:

Reduced matches throughout the year, check club websites for exact dates and times.

100 yard
1st Saturday Rivana Rifle and Pistol Club, Charlottesville. http://www.rrpc.org/calendar/default.html (http://www.rrpc.org/calendar/default.html) NRA approved. 2 50 shot relays 1st starts at 9am (arrive by 8:30) and the second at ~11 am walk and past match
3rd Saturday Lafayette Gun Club, Newport News, http://www.lafayettegunclub.org/upcoming-events.aspx (http://www.lafayettegunclub.org/upcoming-events.aspx) walk and paste match

200 yard
3rd Saturday Fairfax Rod and Gun club (range has pits) http://fxrgc.org/calendar/viewEvent.cfm?EventID=2359 (http://fxrgc.org/calendar/viewEvent.cfm?EventID=2359)
4th Saturday Cavalier Rifle and Pistol Club. Starts at 9 am. NRA approved. Usually an 80 shot match http://cavrpc.org/conventional-high-power/ (http://cavrpc.org/conventional-high-power/) walk and past match

Across the course Matches in Virginia

Early April Fleet and All Navy Matches held at Quantico. 6 days of Rifle and 2 days of Pistol Shooting
May Remember the Brave Matches held at Quantico. 3 days of Rifle Pistol and Shotgun matches (Long Range, Highpower, bullseye pistol, action pistol, shotgun).
June: Virginia State Championship or Regional held at Quantico.
July VA State Championship or Regional held at Quantico.

numerous Highpower full distance matches are held by Norfolk County Rifle Range at Academi Center in Moyock NC http://www.ncrr.net/calendar/ (http://www.ncrr.net/calendar/)

Alvin York believed that the best practice for Match shooting was match shooting. He believed that the best practice for combat was also match shooting. It's funny how a trophy or ribbon or piece of tin can increase the hear rate and make things harder. It also tests your mental focus.

My advice is to try one of the smaller matches. People will help you, particularly if you make it known that you need help. But waiting doesn't work. It just makes you wait longer.
