It was a bright and sunny day today and I played hooky from work (one of the joys of being self-employed) and went to the American Patriot Gun Club range in Hortense, GA, just outside of Brunswick, about 60 miles south of Savannah off I-95.
The owner, Chief, said that he was very interested in hosting an event there. He is retired Air Force. The club has about 150 members and opened about two years ago. There is a 500m range with hanging steel. There is a 100m rifle range and a 50m pistol range. They are side by side, with high berms on all three sides. He seemed impressed by my ability to go "boom/ding" at 300m. I told him that with a line of instructors and students, we could have it sounding like Westminster Abbey.
We discussed the usual courses of instruction and the emphasis on safety. He seemed amenable to allowing us to run the range we are assigned as we see fit, provided that we allow him and his son (about 30) to participate in the event. Each of the ranges have a concrete pad with a metal roof above and "shooting tables." We talked about setting up a firing line ahead of the concrete and that idea did not appear to bother him.
There is a small portable building where he has a gun shop. The only (1) toilet was in there. So, we might want to contract for a porta-john if we do have a shoot there. Parking wasn't bad; but, the ground is coastal sandy, so I imagine that some rain might make things a bit sloppy. Their day use fee is $35 per person; but, I bet we could negotiate that down.
Just a brief report.
If you get a shoot set up Rambo Granny and I could be enticed into making a road trip to lend a hand as we are in NE Florida. Be nice to see you again.
That would be great. I have talked with a number of LEO's, neighbors and Ft. Stewart/Hunter people and they may be willing to make a 90 minute drive south.
Erin and I would love to see you.
There is a deep water marina right in our neighborhood on the Jericho River.
Great job KPUC! O0
The step beyond seventh-stepping (eighth-stepping??), growing new ranges (actually SCs job).
I'm a Shoot Boss (SB) in the Jacksonville area, and would be more than happy to cover a south GA range. I know most GA events are closer to Hotlanta. I was SB-ing 14-16 events a year in three states when I was in Maryland, but I just moved to Florida, and we have so many SBs you can't swing a cat without hitting one...
So if find my self... underemployed. :-\
I defer to Roswell (your state coordinator), but if you need me to talk to them personally (drive up there), or back up Roswell in those comms, I stand ready.
If you've developed a relationship, and you want to talk to him again, let me know and I'll be there.
With 9mm4545 and Rambo Granny's support, we can make it happen. :snipersmi

COLD WARRIOR
Sounds good Cold Warrior. We are unfortunately under represented in that corner. The closest GA Shoot boss had agreed to go check it out, but I think it fell off the radar. Other than KPUC, we do have at least 2 more redhats down there, but our closest shoot boss is 2.5 hours away. Border Raiders would definitely be welcome. PM Inbound
I recently got a membership at 17 South, in Fleming, GA, about 35 minutes south of Savannah. It is an impressive facility with a 100 yard, 100 meter and 500 meter range. The range manager, Tony, seemed to be interested in Appleseed. https://www.17southrngclub.com
Because it is only about 10 minutes from my house, I go there often through the week. I would also be willing to host a visiting shoot boss or other cadre at my house. (I have a guest room, a couch and some floor space.) There is a KOA campground and several low-cost motels within 10 miles.
On weekends most of the ranges have some people on them; but, I am sure we could get either the 100 yard or 100 meter range for an Appleseed.
There is a regular toilet near the 100 yard and 100 meter ranges. I have no idea what they charge for a day use fee. There are 500 dues paying members, with a heavy concentration of present and former service members, LEO's and first responders.
Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield are both within 30 minutes and there is a large law enforcement training facility in Brunswick, about 45 minutes south. I know that in 2008 and 2010, there were a number of Appleseed shoots in this area that had 25-30 participants on a very regular basis.
Roger, good copy all...
(Conversations and follow-ups moved to PM).
Thanks Team!

The inaugural event is to be held on Mother's Day weekend May 11-12. We would love to have our first event well represented. If you can make it, please do.
Thanks again to KPUC for his relentless pursuit of a closer range in an area we were underrepresented. And to Cold Warrior for his assistance in nailing this one down and agreeing to Shoot Boss.

COLD WARRIOR
We have an event on the schedule at a brand new to Appleseed range this weekend (5/11+12/2019).
It is Mother's Day and we don't expect a very big turnout.
If you are any level of Instructor, you are allowed to sign-up for Free. I encourage you to do so.
This facility is an awesome location and has two 100 meter rifle ranges and a 500 meter range. Can anyone say KD in the near future?
It is about 20 miles south of Savannah.
Man, I hate I missed this been busy with a move to near Savannah. But Octavia and I will be down for the next time they have an event

We actually ended up cancelling this one unfortunately as it fell on Mother's Day and attendance was understandably poor. However, I'm working with the range now and should have something on the board soon for mid-October. Keep a lookoout! We will return! O0
Will do,
Talked to a couple people where I work and they are interested also
We have a new date on the board! September 14-15! Let's knock this one out of the park!
