It's always a good time when folks gather together in the El Paso Community College Law Enforcement Academy range for a weekend of Liberty, Marksmanship, and History, and this weekend was no exception!

The Students: Ashley, Barbara, Luis, Mayra, Neftali, Johnathan, Dale, Jeff, Marcos, Eric, and Rob

The Cadre: Mr. Smith, LatebyProxy, YoungPatriot, SuperMario, LoanerRifle, and Waco Kid

After starting our day with the First Strike of the Match and a safety briefing conducted by LatebyProxy, Mrs. Smith took line boss duties and introduced the students to their first target of the weekend; the Hits Count. Lo and behold but LoanerRifle had gotten down with the students and cleared her first EVER Redcoat target!  Huzzah!!!  That got the weekend's marksmanship going on a high note, that's for sure!

With our spirits and enthusiasm both up, we went back to class to learn about the Sling, NPOA, The 6 Steps to Firing the Shot, and a proper, solid prone position.

Some of the class were new to the concepts we presented, but all were open minded and willing to give it a try.

Two dry fire sessions later, and it was time for our first live fire square.  Dun Dun DUN!!  Not one group over 8 MOA!  Let's celebrate with lunch!

LatebyProxy delivered a heartfelt second strike while the class enjoyed a rest and some food.

Back to the line!  Squares, IMC, transitions.... So much to learn! But these folks didn't give up.

We closed out the afternoon with a really well done Third Strike by Waco Kid, then tackled the last Redcoat of the day. No cleared targets this time, but despite their fatigue every student got Three rounds in at LEAST one target.  Improvement!  See you in the morning!!

Neftali and his big bro Eric never picked up a real rifle before this weekend, and they were excellent students!

Day two, and everyone returned, a little more sore than the day before, but in good spirits.

We reviewed the material from Day One and continued onward. The first Redcoat of the day Sunday brought us two more cleared targets! Huzzah!  And everyone hit three times in a least the 200 yard silhouette.  Amazing the difference a good night's sleep can make!

Instruction, AQT, and BAM! 17 year old Eric became a Rifleman at his first ever event with an impressive 224!

We continued through our day, knocking out a total of four AQTs, learning about Known Distance, and hearing the tales of some extraordinary individuals who risked all for Liberty.

Great marksmanship improvement was made by all, as evidenced in the increases in their AQT scores.

Great Liberty was experienced by all, who appreciated the sacrifices made by the Founding Generation so that we, their Posterity, can be Free.

With a special reward to our youngest students, for their persistence and patience in learning, for their wonderful attitudes, and their willing spirits, Eric and Neftali were presented with the Young Patriot patch.

Finally we shot that last Redcoat. No cleared targets this time, but Three students hit the Shingle on their first round and all showed good groups despite the long two days behind them.

After Rifles stowed and range cleaned, we returned to the classroom for one last discussion about Liberty, and what it takes to preserve it.  I hope to see all these fine folks back again in April for our special Patriots' Day event.

Huzzah!!

On behalf of the crew, it was our honor to spend the weekend with you all.  Folks like you are the reason we're here.

Until next time,

Mrs. Smith
