ALL instructors are invited. It should be a fun, and, most importantly, educational event.
Please sign up via Eventbrite, NOT via instructor scheduling (unless you have specifically been tasked with admin/CoF duties). We will need an accurate count for targets and planning and having everyone on the check-in sheet will expedite check-in for Camp Atterbury.
Is it CRITICAL that you follow all instructions on the info link. That is, the link I will provide goes to the EIP. Click on the info link on the EIP and follow the instructions. When you email your contact and rifle info, please include your screen name. Then sign up via Eventbrite.
Please note the $10/day range fee applies to all. Including Friday if you come in that evening. Camping right on the range is available, too. I plan to camp and drift to sleep by the sound of machine guns quietly pew-pew-pew-ing in the distance.
Looking forward to seeing you then!
P.S. Link to follow. I sent scuzzy a boat-load of work this evening. >:D

Hey Indiana Instructors
Please sign up here for the KD day:

Thanks AB - we need another KD day in Texas too.
Done!

Where is the EIP?
How about this?

I signed up, but is the count right on Eventbrite? It says there are only two tickets left. That's a crazy quick sell-out! This will be my first KD event & I'm stoked! I'll get my info sent in ASAP.
There is something goofy there, the cap is set at 7 with a pre-reg of 5.
Should be much higher than that.
HH
Total slots should be 40. I just PM'd scuzzy. And EIP link added to original post. Thanks!
Bumped to 40. So y'all sign up!
I believe I have something worked out with Atterbury's archaic handgun rules. My wife has had plans that weekend but they took a turn for the worse over the weekend and it looks like they will fall through. So yeah for me >:D I won't have to stay home and milk. It may change but it looks pretty solid as of now. Paperwork sent in and registered.
So it looks like Mudcat will be going to Atterbury.
WHAAAAAAT?! Mudcat is coming to Atterbury? WOW. The event is beginning to ooze excellence.
Folks, I can't stress enough how much you need to be there for this weekend.
...this is where the magic happens. :---
I'm also doing my best to get ol' SPQR to get an IIT Primer going for the weekend. That's kind of like a quick and dirty Instructor Boot Camp where you'll learn the ins and outs of being an Instructor. I recommend anyone who's still relatively new to the Instructor Cadre or has never been to an IBC be there for this IIT Primer. It'll get you a great jump start on your Instructor Journey.
It would also be good for seasoned volunteers like me to be there so we can learn to be better Instructor trainers.
...and Mudcat will be there. This is like a win, win, win.
Just signed up. Don't want to miss out again! See you all there. What about camping Bedford crew are we driving it?
Campin.
Alright IN instructors. you are the first to find out. WPA (wolf ) has agreed to send me enough .223 ammo for 40 shooters to get 160rds each. that is enough for 4 AQT's. talking with SPQR regarding the COF for the weekend that means you should get enough free ammo to cover your needs for both days.
All ammo will be .223 only this time. If we do not get a total of 40 shooters signed up we will split up the ammo as best we can.
If you have not already done so get on there and sign up!
If you want to shoot more bring more of your own ammo. Brown mis-stated that just a little. You will get enough Wolf for come-us to 500 and 3 AQTs but our timing from last instructor day indicated that we can get 5 or 6 in so bring more ammo if you want to.
WOLF IS GIVING US .223 ONLY. READ THAT. GET IT?

Thanks for straightening that out hoss!
I just wanted to throw that out there. After the August shoot all the instructors thought starting the day with comeups was more valuable for pacing and warm up than an extra AQT would have been. I have come to think they are right.
Free ammo? HUZZAH!!! :--- :--- :---

No matter what you do, don't tell my wife I was right.
Things just got real!!! I probably need to try and show up again just to keep slim in line :)

Grunt....there is no keeping Slim in line...we've tried, he just won't conform ...
If it happens it will be Sunday morning. I am a little concerned about putting too much stuff together and taking away ventilating time

Are Wolf and TulAmmo (from Walmart) close enough that I'll be able to switch to TulAmmo without too much consternation once my ration of Wolf dries up? Or is that one of those areas where it just depends on the rifle?
Y'all better bring it! I'm not coming all the way from Cincinnati for no shenanigans.
For philagothon-
Wolf and Tula are NOT the same brand. Are they close enough? Isn't all 5.56 for a Rifleman?
The correct answer for this is probably yes, there is a slight difference and you may have to adjust for them. But, from what I've seen on the line, the difference is so slight that most shooters don't even notice. AR-15s are freakin laser beams so you, being a Rifleman may detect an MOA up or down here and there but it will be very slight, especially since we're shooting billboard size targets. Remember to write it down!
Anyone camping friday night? I really hate to get up and leave at 0200. I may camp friday that way I am there for the shenanigans at the start. Or do some rest area camping.
I'm on the fence about camping Friday night but I may just head over that way. Especially if there are some bacon dogs and mud cats there.
~
I plan on coming in Friday night. If you consider sleeping in the back of a Blazer "camping", then I am. BTW what are you gonna do Mudcat; they got no trees to hang from.
UL
Ima campin. Probably Friday night.

Do we camp by our vehicles? If so I will tie off on the antenna of the Blazer and the gas door of the 4Runner. :)
I will leave right after work on Friday then.
I have an apartment (2) bedroom about 35 minutes from there unless you guys just want to camp..just sayin'....I have room for 3
If we want a fire, we will need to bring firewood. I'd be happy to bring some, but all I have is Kentucky firewood, and I guess they only allow Indiana firewood to be burnt. Or does it have to be local wood?
SPQR- can you find out if we can use a fire ring (such as a tire rim) or if we have to use that 55 gal drum again?
UL
Thanks for the offer UD but the camping and the shenanigans around the fire are the best part of any Appleseed get together. I am assuming Atterbury will be no different.
Copy that! ...I might join you guys
I was told in no uncertain terms am I am not allowed to get off work these days but after seeding in the rain today before work I feel a sickness coming on!
~
I will be in NY working from Oct 11-22, so I won't be able to join ya'll :'(
Whenever the next Atterbury shoot is, public or instructor, I will be out there pew pewing with the best of em.
I'll send a prayer to the big rifleman in the sky that ya'll have sunny skies and a good breeze to test that dope! :---

Will the Goverment shut down affect this shoot?
According to Range control, as of this morning, the range will be operating during the weekend with the exclusion of night fire. Depending on scheduling and contract personnel availability, the range may have to be turned in by 1500 Sunday.
More information will be available at the De-Confliction meeting.
YHJ
Man, this weekend is sounding amazing...I so wish I could be there.
Mudcat, free .223, Boss Brown, Ol' Huff, a government shutdown, -:)......what's not to go totally crazy about?
1500 seems a little early but i think we can make it happen. We get a good jump on the shootalating and hammer out 5 or 7 AQTs

Pre-dawn briefing on the green, send rounds downrange at the crack of dawn. Will range control permit that?
UL
Just call range control. that is the key to remember at atterbury. Call Range Control!!
Anybody have an extra AR-15 laying around that they would let me borrow?
I'm really low on .308, and them's the only rifles I got.
I'd love to be able to take advantage of Wolf's hospitality and use some free ammo. :---
Pew pew! 'Merica.
Maynard I believe I'm coming saturday only. I can definitely loan you one for it. I'm still debating on the calling in sick thing but I'm pretty positive it's going to happen. do you want to shoot irons or a red dot or a scope?
Thanks for the offer Grunt Soldier. Looks like RKBL is letting me borrow her M&P, and she'll be there both days.
I still think you should call in sick, though! O0
Yes, Grunt Soldier was starting to look a little under the weather at MCF&G ... maybe even a bit like a drowned water rat ... some recoil therapy should do him wonders!
Signed up and info sent off.

No good unless you pipe in the smells of Liberty (fresh fall breeze and fired rounds). Then again, I probably wouldn't see anything anyway through my tears.
Nope, I'll just spend the weekend cradled in the basement corner ... hugging my M14 and old "D" Target.
You guys and gals have fun and get the job done. Put a few in the black for me, would ya?
I'm thrilled to be attending, it's my first time and with a rifle I'm not familiar with. Slim, you bringing a pigskin?
Guess who's flip-floppy, crazy schedule now says she has the weekend off??? ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^
Rimshot is heading in Friday to cover the deconfliction meeting and update his RSO card. I'll be heading in early Sat AM with Stubborn Yankee. We'll all be camping. O0

If any IN instructors missed submitting info and not going to Atterbury, but has an Appleseed heart needing filled. The Niles, MI Appleseed just got word a boy scout troop is coming out for the weekend. We aren't sure what the numbers are going to be yet, but having a couple of extra people sure would help. Niles, is about 1 mile north of South Bend, IN. You can stay in the clubhouse (heated) if necessary and lunch is provided both days, probably Championship Quality BBQ. Its likely you can get some trigger time too. We also have KD out to 200 yards. http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=37932.msg274259#msg274259 (http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=37932.msg274259#msg274259)

Omg. I keep checking this thread fully expecting to see the shoot back on. Can I call atterbury in the morning and ask since .gov is back open
YHJ is our central contact with them, please let him contact them.
There may be an unfortunate delay between the congress' voting and funds in accounts where the .mil folks can use them.

I know the chain of command. I wasn't actually going to call them just expressing my sadness of it being canceled.
I spoke with Pauline in scheduling several times this week. She called me today to give me the news that she didn't think it could happen and after the deal was made the schedule cancellation email came through from the range management system. SPQR was also there today and gave it his best shot at begging and pleading I am sure.
Remember that they have to write the bill, both sides still have to vote, and get POTUS to sign the bill. I do not see that happening before the deconfliction meeting Friday.
But who knows. I will ring the bell if I hear anything.
YHJ
the way I understand it that all has to be done tomorrow in order to avoid "default" which is not really a default as our .gov takes in more than enough money every month to pay our outstanding bills and interest on said bills. either way no worries. I was just excited I had the day off to hang out with you fine Americans. It's not often my buddy mudcat makes it up north ya know :) Hopefully they surprise us and let us shoot!
While it's disappointing to have it canceled, as often as we've said that Atterbury shoots can be canceled at the last minute we're pretty fortunate that this is the first major issue we've had. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a miracle somewhere. If Mudcat can get us onto the big range at Evansville I'd be happy to carpool with whoever can make it down there.

I just checked our registrations and we are at 13 with 10 boy scout walkons coming out as a group. The scouts are only coming Saturday. Anyone want to give us an extra hand are welcome.
So here is how it happened for me. I had to go to the base yesterday to get my RSO card re-upped (Call Range Control, if you need an aerial MEDEVAC you need to give the 9 digit authorization code but civ. units don't have one so just start screaming, downrange speed limit is 25mph, If you have misfires fill out an FM and TM and mark all rounds, etc...). (By the way, I elected to skip the video, took the test, was perfect, and STILL found the mistake in the grading rubric, but there was a touch of luck involved) I was about a mile from the gate when YHJ called. I was pulling in to RC by the time we got of the phone. I immediately went in and started begging Pauline and, since I happen to be a ruggedly handsome and roguishly charming dude, I thought I had a chance. I had no chance.
All base activities are cancelled. ALL. Because of the full cancellation I was told that, even in the event of a restart, activities would have to be rescheduled and approved, which would not be done by deconfliction. I want to make this point clear, since it was made that way for me, this event has not been put on standby, it was CANCELLED. I hope you can understand the difference.
From a functional point of view their concern is that their access to gasoline has been cut off, which means that Range Officers cannot patrol the ranges or access points to the impact area. because they cannot do that they are not allowing any usage of the ranges. I offered to purchase six tanks of gasoline, enough to fuel three vehicles for the two days while we would be hot. I was told that wasn't how they did things. I suggested it was how they COULD do things and how we should do things, by rational people making rational arrangements to the benefit of all parties. I was told that wasn't how the government worked. I, of course, had an inkling about that one.
Though my charms are considerable and the fair Pauline was not immune to them, an event at the base this weekend would be squarely in the realm of odd miracles, and not the kind that are known to happen.
I want to apologize to everyone. No, there wasn't much I could do about the cancellation, but I ramrod a lot of the effort that goes into this, goad people from far away to drop their crocs and come to the base, shame others into doing the same, and generally call people pansies for not shooting more .30cal and KD. In doing that many responded and sacrificed time with family, work or vacation days, and their own sweat equity and treasure to be in attendance. All of that kinda goes down the drain at this point. I am sorry. I was looking forward to seeing everyone together. As the time when I can be a very active member of our cadre draws to a close and my involvement begins to wane I was really excited at the prospect of seeing us all get together to detoxify, relax, shootilate, eat chili and fart while it is still good outside weather. Maybe events can conspire and we can do this very soon without massive upheaval in everyone's worlds. Till then
SPQR - thank you for spearheading this event. And thank you, YHJ, for doing all of the gritty paperwork. The behind-the-scenes effort to running an event at Atterbury are nearly staggering (especially when herding the cats to send in their paperwork), and I thank you for the prep work that has now gone to waste. As much as we wanted this, I'd prefer it be on instructors' time than students' time. We are already Riflemen. We will persist. Looking forward to seeing you all on the trail again soon.

I contacted the club president Mike Maurer yesterday and pleaded our case. He was going to contact the BOD to get their input. He said he would call me back but so far nothing. I also contact 3 board members and was assured they would be willing to help.
So I am waiting patiently, well I am waiting anyway.
Deleted. I was getting caught up while Huff was typing.
We have graciously been granted the use of the rifle bay for Saturday, Sunday is a possibility yet. We will however be able to shoot until midnight on Saturday night, yes we have lights on the 400 yard range. The 500 yard range has pits. We can camp Friday and Saturday night. Be on the range at the first peak of the sun and stay until we are out of ammo.
We have running water and flush toilets, a shelter house and I guess a football field.
Now who wants to shoot some KD?
