I checked out a place called The English Pit here in Vancouver/Camas,WA.
It litteraly is in a pit, to go shootn' you must walk down a steep gravel path first. There is a pistol range; 25 yard small bore rifle range; 50 and 100 yard rifle range (rim or center fire) This is a covered bench rest on a slab type of range, shooting from the bench at the target has an odd angle to it. I know AS'ders don't do bench, but that is what's there. the shooting lanes are all right next to each other seperated by big earth berms, although to check targets requires the 50 and 100 yard lanes to go cold.  Kinda cramped, parking is small, 2 porta dumpers.  It's a possibility, I read AS dont' need much room, my first impression is they might oblige an AS, I havent asked, yet.  So if you read this, give me some feedback...

A few days ago I spent a morning looking up ranges "near" seattle, the idea being to join a range that looks like a potential appleseed venue. I notice that some ranges mention marksmanship as a political virtue and some ranges just talk about "sporting". If you are a member or have shot at any of these I'd love to hear your thoughts.

The two ranges I will visit first are:

http://www.gunsafety.org/  Kitsap rifle & revolver club -- looks like the best bet for an appleseed so far
4900 Seabeck Hwy NW Bremerton, WA 98312(360) 373-1007 info@gunsafety.org

http://www.svrifle.com/ snoqualmie valley rifle club -- has to find new location in about 3 years. has 200 yard range and does CMP events
http://www.svrifle.com/membership.htm

other ranges that made the cut, or might be worth investigating:

You have mucho options, Ive found a pit...normally I go out to the woods, I like the woods...but, I guess we need a legitamate range, the English Pit has no membership. There is one other range closer towards the woods I need to check out too, but I heard you have to be an NRA member first and then get on their waiting list...

I went out to my range yesterday.  the rifle range would not work being only around 15 foot wide.

not having been to a appelseed yet i cant guarantee it but i think one of our pistol ranges would work fine for a 25 meter shoot.  the shorter of the two is 130 feet long from the firing line.   it also about 80 foot wide.

i shoot once or twice a month with the pistol range master.  i will talk to him and see what his reaction is.
they are very particular about targets and i will have to get a sample and or pictures to show them.
We hold  IDPA matches on the 2nd Saturday of the month and man on man falling plate matches on the 4th Saturday.  non-members are welcome.
