What a wonderful way to celebrate the birth of a nation!
22 intrepid souls ventured forth into the cool windy morn to hear the tale of how we became a nation, and improve on their marksmanship skills.
The morning started off with the safety brief delivered by our very own brand new red hat Ohio Piper. Rifles were brought to the line and the morning redcoat was shot. The results showed that we had some work to do. And work we did. Ohio Piper and assorted models provided each point of instruction, and our students soaked it up like a sponge. Even the gusty wind blowing targets, mats, rifles, and equipment around did not dampen their spirits. Groups steadily got smaller. At lunch we were regaled with a moving presentation of the first strike, followed up with some instruction on IMC. After lunch sights were adjusted and we introduced more positions. The day got a little long, and the wind a little bit of a challenge, so we shot our afternoon redcoat to see how far we had journeyed together. The day ended with the memorial volley and a benediction. Nary a dry eye was to be found after the volley.
Sunday dawned calm, but colder for the 17 returning students. After a quick review we went about the business of making riflemen, with a couple new ones joining our ranks, and several repeating their scores. Too soon our weekend had to end, but we hope to see many back on the lines in the future.

It was a very good (and cold and windy) weekend.  I'm happy I got to spend Patriots Day weekend with such good people.  The level of engagement and the level of improvement were fun to watch.
