The day began under threatening skies, but an enthusiastic group of instructors and students all arrived early and the clinic began on schedule!

After the opening remarks, Bug_7 presented the safety brief and Roswell, in tri-corner hat and colonial coat, presented his always entertaining First Strike.  The line drill that followed saw four brand new shooters receive personal instruction to familiarize them with loaner rifles and equipment provided thorough an NRA Grant secured by CokeGuy in 2021. The redcoat course of fire that followed resulted in 2 cleared targets, 5 shingle hits and a host of 100/200 yard hits suggesting that by day's end, perhaps this group might yield more riflemen than cooks. Time would tell.

Following the redcoat, we spent the morning teaching the tripod of marksmanship, fitting rifles with lots of dry-fire/dry-practice until mid-morning.  The extra time spent focusing on the fundamentals paid off.  Saw excellent groups by about 3/4 of the shooters in five squares (or less).  About half of the students were using iron sights, too!  We returned to the classroom for lunch and Second Strike by Overmountain, followed by talking targets and IMC.  After lunch, we were able to advance to teaching seated and standing after only two squares.  We were able to expand the instruction and practice for seated a bit longer than we typically see at a one day event.  We would see this pay off later in the afternoon.  The time monkey was nowhere to be seen!

The mid-afternoon break and Third Strike was followed the Appleseed Qualification Test (AQT).  The AQT followed smoothly and target checks between strings of fire suggested that there were going to be some students who would likely prove they knew very much what they were about.  Charles and Isaac, both return students, shot a rifleman's score and Isaac, using iron sights, earned a distinguished patch.  We had one requalification and several students knocking on the door in the high 100's/low 200's.  With the time monkey at bay, we could have shoot a second AQT, but due to the looming threat of severe weather and growing student fatigue (it was hot and humid), we shot a red coat, cleared the line and retreated to the classroom for closing remarks.  Charles was invited to consider taking an orange hat, which he did.  Welcome to the cadres Charles!

As the last student drove through the gates, the sky opened up and the instructors reviewed the good, the bad and the ugly, waiting for the rain to subside.

It was a great day for history, heritage and marksmanship.

Thank you to all the instructors who volunteered their time and to the students who took time out of their weekend to join us!

Huzzah!

This was a great event! Congratulations to the new shooters and thank you Charles for stepping up!

To the others, remember a Rifleman persists. Keep practicing the perfect way to do and come back and see us (bring a friend!). We will have your patch waiting on you.  ;)

Another picture dump. Not a lot, but I liked them.  Great event!

Bug flawlessly giving the safety briefing like she's done it 100 times.

Overmountain explains the seated position with Ross as his model.

Charles earned his Rifleman Patch and took an Orange Hat.  I can't wait to volunteer with him.
