Again, the Shelby County (AL) Sheriff's Office hosted Appleseed this weekend. Instructors TLawley, 76Patriot, Headshot Heather, Mean Machine and yours truly were on hand to welcome six Patriots who braved the heat, humidity, and threat of thunder showers to hear the true story of April 19, 1775, and learn the proven techniques of rifle field firing. After students arrived, they were checked in, issued handouts, and we began with the welcome, introductions, safety brief, and initial instruction. All went according to plan until the early afternoon when a squall blew in bringing a pelting rain, lightning, and thunder. Not too long lasting, we were able to get back on the range, complete instruction and try to put it all together on the inaugural AQT.
Day 2 dawned with plenty of sunshine (and heat/humidity). Everyone returned for their opportunity to soak up more marksmanship instruction. We were also glad to have DUHON join us to help out as an instructor. After a review period we headed back to the firing line to take in some practice and drills. Then we began the AQT grind. During the lunch break, the students were treated to some stories about Dangerous Old Men and Brave Women. Again, we returned to the AQT grind trying to find our first qualifier. Although we didn't find a qualifier, several shooters were knocking on the door by the time the final AQT was attempted; Andrew came closest with a 209. After the shooting was completed, we were treated to a special presentation as the finale to the benediction; 76Patriot presented Patrick Henry's "Liberty or Death" speech. The rendition sent chills throughout the assembled group! I believe there are some photos to be posted in addition to those below. Stay tuned to this AAR and check back soon.
