Romeo's Hero

This past weekend Appleseed had its 2nd event at the Sun Mountain Gun Range in Coarsegold, CA.

We had 4 people pre-registered for the shoot and everybody showed up despite the drizzly morning on Saturday. Throughout all of Sat. the shooters really enjoyed seeing teh progress of their shooting. 1 shooter in particular started out with OK groups and then they got smaller when he used a sling, and I heard him say wow I can't believe how much more stable I am, then the group was even smaller after learning about the 6 steps, and was down to a 4MOA group after the NPOA instruction - he was very encouraged by his progress.

At lunch the history was a lot of fun - it isn't often that you get to tell the story in a small group setting like this - and it seemed that everyone had a good basis for the American Revolution history. The shooters enjoyed hearing the story of the 3 strikes and they even opted to stay inside the clubhouse a little longer to discuss history (the rain may have played a small part) so the whole group was able to enjoy a little history discussion.

For the rest of the day the weather remained dry and the sun even showed its face for a few minutes.

By the end of the day everyone was ready to head home and get some rest, 2 of the shooters stayed to discuss history and Appleseed a little further. Unfourtunately they were unable to return the following day, but plan to come to another appleseed in the future. Each of them received a copy of the Bloody British Butchery broadside, and were very excited, they had heard of them but had never seem one.

On Subday our Mother and Son team returned ready for another day of rifle instruction. Both shooters showed a lot of improvement througout the day and feel much more confident in their abilities. Connor had our high score of the weekend with a 199 on the AQT (this is his 2nd appleseed) - he really wants to get that rinfleman patch and become and is also thinking about becoming an instructor for the program. I think the most exciting part of the day for me was at lunch when Connor asked if we were going to get to hear about the guy who got shot in the face and stabbed - he really enjoyed the histroy from the last time we were there and has asked for Rev War History books for Christmas. We had a great tiem talking about the Dangerous old Men and Determined dames and our shooters participated in the discussion also.

We look forward to seeing all of you again.

Sun Mountain - Thank you for the wonderful gift of waiving the Range fees for our shooters for this past shoot, it was a great Christmas suprise.

Another weekend instructing at a great Appleseed Shoot.

Sun Mountain is a beautiful range, they have a comfortable range house, nice shooting bays and the Sierra foothills sure are pretty right now.

All of the students improved much through the weekend.  The groups continued to tighten up, and more and more of the holes were on target.

Telling the histories Saturday and Sunday, meant that all of us were sitting around the same table elbow to elbow.  No standing in front of the group this time.

Thankyou all,
Neil

Nice way to relate history!

Thanks for the report.
