Title: Glasgow, KY AAR Sept. 12, 2020
Post by: dond on September 14, 2020, 10:57:33 AM
This was a new venue for us. The Barren River Rod and Gun Club invited us to do a one day event and they were very gracious to us. They even prepared lunch for us with delicious hamburgers. And a number of the Board of Governors was present to observe the event.

The day began with 8 shooters and beautiful, warm weather. The event continued in a typical fashion. We were blessed with a few very light rain showers which caused no problems. But during the first AQT, a heavy downpour, lasting perhaps 30 minutes, forced us to stay under cover. We did manage to complete the AQT and a shooter with an AR scored 217! The cardboard backers had to be replaced and another AQT was begun. Upon its completion, the same AR shooter again scored Rifleman. Congratulations Tim. He had been to a number of Appleseeds before and was an accomplished shooter. But during this last AQT, another heavy rain descended upon us and all the backers had to be trashed. However, it was time to go anyway. Fortunately the rain ended shortly which enabled us to clear the firing line and tear down the target line.

The other shooters were anxious to learn, performed well and improved considerably. There were two very young shooters who did an exceptional job all day, particularly with safety. One shot from a bag and his rifle was too heavy, with a stock which was too long. But one of the instructors loaned him a more suitable rifle and he did very well.

And best of all, Tim has consented to become an Orange Hat. We will have him set up for it shortly. This will do much to bolster our KY cadre.

I am glad Tim decided to become an orange hat.    ..:..

I want to thank the club for furnishing lunch.  The cheeseburgers were delicious!  Congratulations to everyone who adapted to the rainy conditions.  I took a few pictures.

A most enjoyable event and great effort by the participants.  Congratulations Tim for requalifying as Rifleman, and welcome aboard as an IIT.  A big thanks to members Jim Adkins and Jimmy Shaw and their associates, who were very helpful in requesting the event, briefing the board, assisting in our initial tour and assessment of the facility, supporting the event with advertising & recruiting, manpower, equipment, and preparations to assure success.  I look forward to another opportunity to visit Glasgow and the excellent Barren River Rod and Gun Club facilities. http://www.barrenriverrodandgun.com/
