We had an excellent event this weekend.  The weather in the mornings was quite chilly.  My second AS in a row with frost on the grass at the start of the day.  But as the day progressed, it warmed into absolutely perfect weather.

On Saturday, we started with myself, MacMcM, NC-17, and exactly one shooter.  With our one shooter, we went through the whole day as if there were 30 shooters.  I explained to the shooter that we have a process for teaching our instructors, and I was going to use the opportunity to get him some quality instruction, as well as an opportunity to work on the IITs teaching technique.

And that's what we did.  And it went really well.  Our one shooter, Shannon, started the day shooting roughly 12-16MOA groups.  By the end of the day Saturday, he was shooting five round groups into 1" black squares on a consistent basis.  I'm thinking he might have benefited quite a bit from the instructor:student ratio he enjoyed.  He ended the day shooting a 207 on the AQT.

Sunday broke much the same way.  But we had six walk-ons, one of which was a completely new shooter.  Because we had a completely new shooter on the line, we spent the morning running through the standard Saturday morning instruction.  But we did it quickly, because I wanted to get into an AQT grind for the afternoon, and wanted to give the return shooters as many opportunities to make rifleman as possible.

Our one shooter from Saturday that started the day shooting 3-4" groups, shot Rifleman on Sunday's 2nd AQT.  Congrats Shannon!  O0  We hope to see you back!

We did some KD shooting at 100yds thanks to Mac and his absolutely sublime Garand.  Most of the shooters elected to wail on the full-sized target at 100yds from standing using the Garand.  Also, we had a couple of pumpkins (it being Halloween and all) out at the 100yd line.  Almost all of our shooters took shots at these tiny pumpkins with my .50BMG for fun.  For spectacular effect, I told one of our shooters, "hey, if you want to make something neat happen, put the crosshairs right at the base of the pumpkin.  Right where it's sitting on the ground."  After we cleared the line, the kids went running to find pumpkin bits.  Some of them were 40 yards away, uphill, from where they started before that 660 grain FMJ impacted.

We often say in Appleseed that Riflemen persevere.  And I am here to facilitate that perseverance as best I can.  After we'd wrapped up the shoot for the day, I offered to stick around and run the shooters through as many AQTs as they were willing to shoot.  We shot into the very end of useable light.  In fact, I illuminated the 25yd line on the last stage of our last AQT with my surefire.  Was this maybe, Appleseed's first Night Shoot?  I had to clear the line with a flashlight.  *sigh*  The perils of winter and the time-monkey.  :(  I did learn something neat about 10/22s though.  There's a neat little red flash through the ejection port!  Who woulda thunk it!

I know TheMachine and Mac took some pics this weekend.  Hopefully they'll come along shortly and post them up.

What fun weekend! I absolutely love seeing a shooter "scoonch" his NPOA for the very first time. Good job Shannon.
I got to do some of the history (my SB enjoys it as much as I do so we fought over the right to present!) and it was a blast. Our 6 walkons on Sunday are a TRUE American family. They have been to several shoots, and still hang on every word of Rev War history. Everyone should meet them.

I will post some pics tomorrow after an upload.

Yeah I had a great time myself as a shooter. And if it wasn't for the awesome instructors that I had I wouldn't have made Rifleman  ^:)^ so thanks guys. I will try to upload some pics that I took on my cell phone when I get home from work. I look forward to doing it again but bring along mrs scooby and possibly scrappy doo too. lol.  O0
