The shoot went very well. We had sunshine ^:)^ and lots of cheerful participants ..:... (Big improvement over last years freezing rain! A big thanks to our Instructors Dano, LibertyMinded, Cowgirl Ducky & Marpat Whittemore!

Ray showed up first with his son Chase. They were very helpful in setting up and breaking down each day. It was Chase's first time shooting. He was an excellent student and learned very quickly. He did a great job maintaining muzzle control, saving his rifle, listening to instruction, and persevering for the entire 2 days! He also showed great improvement in his marksmanship. :)

The Rachel (7), Caleb (10) and Luke (12) came to shoot and all did a great job maintaining rifle safety and learning to shoot. Luke came back on Sunday and made great progress towards rifleman status. Rachel was an amazing shooter for a 7 year old and had a great time. Caleb worked very hard and made great improvement throughout the day, and we missed him on Sunday :'(. Thank you to Ian and Dyan for bringing your kids and helping out! We look forward to seeing you in April. O0

Juan brought his son Dustin. Dustin tried really hard. Though he was a lefty and used to shooting left handed, he switched to shoot right handed because he learned he was right-eye dominant. This was a challenge, and we know that he will get a hang of it.

Barbara & George brought their 4 children aged 17 and up, Parker, Natalie, Taylor, & Lauren. Although new to shooting they were all very attentive and made great progress! :~ :--- :~

Cameron was shooting excellent groups and will be a rifleman soon. He was shooting a bolt rifle and using a combination of a 5 round mag & single shot.

Garrett also shot well and improved over the course of the day.

We were also happy to have Steve come to improve his shooting!  :cool2:

On Sunday attendance was low (Superbowl Sunday ++))...but I  would rather be on the range anyday O0.

Jeff showed up on Sunday with new sights on his rifle (a return Appleseeder). He was shooting great groups and scored a 199. I am sure with persistence and locking down his sights (there were drifting problems) he will be rifleman very soon.   :~ :--- :~ Were looking for our 1st Rifleman from UCSB....you, James, and Jimmy should come compete for it in April! Fix your sights, dry-practice, and head to the range.

Curt also came on Sunday (he has previously attended a shoot) and showed great improvement.

On Sunday we practiced NPOA with Oreo Cookies to break up the AQT Grind. The shooters had to gain their NPOA and then close their eyes, and "Breath In, Breathe Out, Relax & Fire" on command. Jeff's cookie went down on the first shot! Great NPOA. Curt & Chase reverified thier NPOA and also hit their cookies on following shots!

Good AAR  O0
Thanx for the pic's .
Did I read UCSB has a rifle club?
Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

Kind of...not officially sponsored. There is a Santa Barbara Gun Club Facebook Page which is only open to people in the UCSB Network (i.e. have a UCSB email address).

We have had several participants come out repeatedly from this group (James, Jimmy, & Jeff, UCSB Students). They have improved greatly and are knocking on the door to rifleman. Some more practice, and some equipment fixes and they will be there! It's a race to see who will be first.

Dano

What a great shoot and an awesome group of students and families. Here are some more pictures. Rachel and Nick it is always a pleasure to work with you two on the Appleseed trail!
