Project Appleseed Known Distance rifle clinic for center fire rifle shooters.
BGSL August 15-16, 2015
What this is: This is an intermediate level class for rifle shooters. This is NOT a beginner class for new center fire rifle owners. This is a class for shooters who have some experience with their rifles but who may lack confidence at longer distances. We will not spend a lot of time on the basics/fundamentals as we do at one of our Project Appleseed 25 meter events. We fill focus extensively on range estimation to enable shooters to master the art of successfully engaging targets at unknown distances out to the range limit of 300 yards.
What to bring: Eye and ear protection, shooting mat, center fire rifle capable of firing accurately to 300 yards, preferably zeroed at 25 yards. Also, 300-400 rounds of ammunition of a similar kind, i.e., all 147 grain 30-06 loaded to same specs, or something of that nature. Notebook and writing instruments. Teachable attitude is most important. It will be hot on these dates so bring something to drink, sunscreen and dress appropriately for the temperature. The firing line is covered but we will do a lot of walking and will be in the sun as we go down range to check targets.
I will email a template of range data card, to copy and bring. I suggest you make a number of copies of this. We fill focus extensively on range estimation and shooting sighter groups every 100 yards out to 300 yards. The goal is to make sure you leave with precise data about where your shots hit at these distances and establish your rifle’s BSZ (Battle Sight Zero). We will provide at least one opportunity to shoot the full-size AQT out to 300 yards and to qualify at Actual Distance to give you a chance to earn the coveted Project Appleseed LD rocker or tab. You may shoot from any position or use any support you choose for sighters at all distances. However when we shoot the KD qualifying round you must shoot like a Rifleman, unsupported, in prone, sitting or kneeling and standing. Prior attendance at a Project Appleseed event will greatly improve your chances at success of success.
Two weeks before the event we will send out links to several online sites where you can plug in your rifle data to create trajectory charts of where your rounds should impact the target at 100-500 yards. You will be asked to bring your chart with you to the event where we will review them in the classroom portion of the event.
This is a wonderful opportunity to bring more than one center fire rifle and get come-ups from 100 to 300 yards.
Both rimfire or centerfire rifle allowed at this range.
Weather:
Bring what's appropriate for you and bring cover for your rifle if rain is expected. Events are not canceled due to the weather (with the exception of extreme weather, i.e. - tornado, severe storms/lightning).
Food:
There will be a designated time for lunch and history. There is no food or water available on site. Participants are encouraged to stay on site through lunch. Please bring what food you need or be prepared to have your order delivered to the range. Leaving the range for lunch is not the best option and we continue without anyone who is late returning from lunch.
