From the Denver-metro area, take I-70 east to Byers, Colorado. Take highway 36 north (left) out of Byers. Highway 36 will curve back to the east. After ~ 8.3 miles on highway 36, turn north (left-only) onto Rector-Leader road (also known as Leader Rd or CR 52). After ~ 9 miles on Rector-Leader road, turn west (left-only) on 96th avenue. A nature reserve sign will be visible on the right side of the intersection at 96th avenue and Rector-Leader road. CRC will be on your right in 1 mile marked with a red stone marker and “CRC”. Enter through the gate and continue on the road straight ahead until you reach the Silhouette Range at the termination of the road (see CRC map below).
NOTE: Roads from Hwy 36 to the range are largely unpaved and are prone to flooding and muddy conditions after rain.
From Limon and points east, take I-70 west to Byers (about 45 miles). Then follow the instructions above.
NOTE: If you are having a problem finding .22 ammunition please contact us using the contact information below.
For the 1-day long distance shoots, bring a high power rifle. You will want at least 75 centerfire rounds to sight in and shoot 100-400 yards. Shooting will be in prone position but if you can't do that, we'll work with you.
For the two day event, bring a .22LR or centerfire for 25 meter shooting.
KD Events
The KD event is a 2-day centerfire clinic, shooting 100-400 yards. Prone, sitting/kneeling and standing positions will be covered. You'll get a chance to earn a rifleman patch at distance. Bring 200 rounds.
Large capacity ammunition magazines (capable of holding more than 15 rounds), are banned statewide if purchased after July 1, 2013. Although there are provisions for a non-resident passing through, it is best to keep weapons cased and simply avoid stopping in Denver altogether. They will arrest you and make you hire a lawyer to get your rifle back. There is no state Assault Weapons Ban. Open carry is legal in Colorado except in some cities (don't press your luck in cities, they'll find something else to charge you with). Concealed carry requires a permit. No loaded long arms in vehicles – chamber must be empty (hunting law), handguns OK.
