A descendant of the original Whole Kit & Caboodle cleaning kit is the Tactical Cleaning Kit, named as such before tactical came to mean what it does today. Made with pride in Lyons Falls, NY, this is more aptly a universal gun cleaning kit. The unique cotton patches create swabs for 360 degree coverage, ensuring a proper Breech-to-Muzzle® clean for most rifles, pistols and shotguns. I've used Otis products for years. They also make a short jag and bronze brush for easy 10-22 cleaning from the ejection port.

Maybe somebody knows the answer to this question while we're discussing cleaning kits.

Why in the world do the various companies make so many of the cleaning rod attachments with different size threads. I mean some of them are dang near identical yet you need to get an adapter to use one brush, jag, or the other. Dang it gets annoying. Is there a good reason for this other than to piss me off?

I don't think Otis does this, but the reason some companies do I'm sure, is so they can sell you the adapter. Like how phones and laptops used to have all the cool plugins, but now those companies took them out and sell the adapters. LOL.

I should get a couple of these. I have the remnants of one from ten years ago.

I doubt companies make things proprietary just for the hell of it. If you're making all ends of a system, you can pick the connections you want. Sometimes things are minimized, like laptops just seem to have power and USB-C anymore, then you get adapters. Otis did the right thing by using the standard thread, that way I can screw on Hoppe's brushes on to the Otis cables.
