It was a small but mighty group that formed our line Saturday morning at the Piqua Fish and Game; six eager shooters were ready for a weekend of shooting and history. The morning began with one cleared Red Coat target shot by Brian. All but one shooter had previously been to an Appleseed, so instruction went quickly and very few equipment issues surfaced.

Two scoring Appleseed Qualification Tests (AQT's) were shot in the afternoon with Bryan reconfirming his rifleman status with a score of 237. Others showed steady improvement through the day.

Sunday saw the return of all six shooters.  The morning began with two cleared Red Coat targets, congratulations to Brian and Caleb.  After morning marksmanship drills we resumed our AQT's and saw a number of re-qualification scores; Caleb re-qualified with a 223 and a 232, Bryan with 131, 221 and 233, while Cameron shot a 218 and 210.

Sophia and Alex showed good improvement; it was Sophia's first Appleseed but she was able to score in the 180's, which is very good shooting. I'm sure she'll get her patch at the next event!

We had one new rifleman's score shot by Tina, on her last AQT of the day she shot a 216, congratulations Tina!

We almost ended the weekend without a summer downpour, but just as we were finishing the final Red Coat it cut loose, soaking rifles and a couple of the more measured (slower) shooters.

I believe we may have set a new record; sixty-six percent of the shooters on the line took a hat and joined the team. We have three new Orange Hats (Instructors In Training) and one new Blue hat. Thanks to Bryan, Caleb, Cameron and Tina for stepping up to help the cause.

Thanks to our awesome Instructor crew of Chieflane, Shadow870, WildBillCody, Steel-Man, and Mac.

What a great weekend.  The weather cooperated well, less the rain downpour at the very last redcoat on Sunday.  The folks that attended all seemed to have a great experience, and loved hearing the history.  It was great seeing every single adult participant this weekend choosing to become a volunteer by accepting an orange or blue hat.  My son Cameron (aka Highpower) was one of those that accepted an orange hat..Huzzah!!  He is heading off to Phoenix for college in August and perhaps will have an opportunity in AZ to attend an Appleseed event one weekend..otherwise we will get him back to Piqua again when an event is held there while he is home. Thanks to shoot boss, Shep and all the Piqua instructors for hosting another great Appleseed!
