The Boulder Rifle Club (BRC) was once again the host range for Colorado Appleseed's first Rimfire Known Distance (RFKD) of 2022! The weather was predicted to be pretty poor (cold, wet and muddy) following the late spring snow storm which had just passed, but we beat the weather man and had a perfect day at the range! Four shooters took the line and learned about working their rifles at ranges beyond our normal 25m events. There was a quick review of the fundamentals followed by trajectory and comeups, drop data collection and recording, zero selection and correcting for winds among other topics. The group then used what they learned to shoot the Appleseed Qualification Test "at distance".

What a group of shooters! Mike came out rusty after not attending an Appleseed for several years and just missed qualifying with a 38!. Steff put all his practice together and shot multiple qualifying scores earning both his RimFire KD patch and his first Rifleman patch. May was out to her first Appleseed event of any kind; she applied the fundamentals and scored expert also earning both her RFKD and Rifleman patch at this event. Chris' shooting has been steadily improving at each Appleseed. In addition to requalifying, he also shot his personal best score and earned his Distinguished patch! We also had instructors who found time to shoot, CodeFogey earned his RFKD patch with multiple qualifying scores and Flux put up several qualifiers also. Just a very safe and skilled group of shooters.

We also took some time to cover some interesting history from the American Revolution, including the Overmountain Men at the Battle of King's Mountain and the story Ephraim Branks from the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812. It was a great day to spend with fellow Americans enjoying our marksmanship heritage and the history of our founding. Thanks to all those who were able to attend and I look forward to seeing you all again at a future event. (Full Distance Event in Laramie next month??)

I only have a couple of pictures, but I will post them as soon as I get caught up and into town to use some proper internet.

Huzzay!
50% qualification is very respectable.

Actually, it was even better than that . . . we had 6 shooters (2 were instructors) and 5 made score, including two who were also earning their first Rifleman's patch and 1 who earned his first distinguished patch. The one shooter who missed getting a patch only missed by 2 points! So 83% qualified and 33% shot distinguished! It was a good shoot!

Live Free or Die!!!

It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.

"Honor, justice, and humanity, forbid us tamely to surrender that freedom which we received from our gallant ancestors, and which our innocent posterity have a right to receive from us. We cannot endure the infamy and guilt of resigning succeeding generations to that wretchedness which inevitably awaits them if we basely entail hereditary bondage on them." â€"Thomas Jefferson (1775)

Looks like this was a great event all around! Bummed I missed this one.
