Shooters,

What a great Appleseed this past weekend at Dillon Sportsman Center near Newark, OH.  We had fourteen shooters show up Saturday morning looking to work on their skills.

We started the weekend with a welcome, an introduction to the goals of RWVA and Project Appleseed, and our normal safety briefing.  This was followed by bringing rifles to the line and we started the event with the Sat morning Red Coat.

Results were pretty impressive.  We had eleven of fourteen put three rounds in the 100 yd target, 7 at 200, 4 at 300, 2 at 400 and 5 joined Daniel Morgan's rangers.  We had one shooter who cleared the Red Coat.  Congrats to Kelsi for the great start.

We moved to the points of instruction (POI).  The steady hold factors in prone were presented followed by the six steps and NPOA.  Related drills were shot after each POI and we then shot sighter groups in anticipation of IMC.

IMC was presented at lunch and sight adjustments were calculated.

We broke for lunch in the clubhouse and the shooters were treated with a great first strike presented by Naga.

When we returned to the line, sight adjustments were made and confirmation groups were shot. We then moved on to steady hold factors in seated and standing with related drills on our Green Coat targets.

Next was a practice AQT, followed by a real AQT.  We ended the day with the afternoon Red Coat.  Scores were again promising.  We had 11 of 14 at 100, 7 at 200, 3 at 300, 3 at 400, and 5 hit the shingle.  We had another cleared Red Coat.  Congrats to John S for clearing a Red Coat.

The Second Strike was presented at the afternoon break and the Third Strike and a call to action was presented to close out the day.

Sunday dawned like Saturday, sunny and good temps.  All but one shooter returned for day two.  The morning Red Coat showed consistent results.  We had 10 of 13 shooters at 100, 6 at 200, 4 at 300 3 at 400, and 2 joined Daniel Morgan.

After an NPOA drill, we moved on to the AQT grind.

We shot five AQT's on Sunday with great results.  We had three folks shoot the score. Congrats to new Riflemam John  S (212, 211, and 213), Scott (requalify 214), and Cammo Cowboy (requalify 228, 231).

We broke up the AQT grind with a team challenge.  This challenge was a tribute to the anniversary of D-Day and to the M-1 Garand rifle.  Each team of three shooters was instructed to load seven rounds.  (This makes each team an 21 gun salute to the men of D-Day).  After an introduction about the history of D-Day, John Garand and the M-1, the shooters were brought to the line for the challenge.

The results were amazing.  The top three teams were so close that we needed the total number of V's to break the tie.

The winner was Team Revere (103-18V's) followed by Team Warren (103-16V's) and Team Hancock (102-15V's).  The difference was so close that really all three teams were winners. Awards were given to the top three teams and we moved on to the final AQT and Red Coat.

Results were again strong.  We had 8 of 13 at 100, 5 at 200, 6 at 300, 2 at 400, and 6 hit the shingle.  And, Cammo Cowboy  cleared his target.

We closed the event with another call to action and a challenge for all to get involved in their communities.  It was another great Appleseed at Dillon Sportsman Center.

My thanks to the shooters for having a safe event and to the Instructors (SirBob, HikerMatt,, Camo Cowboy, NavyShooter, Cactus Jack, Naga, Black Hand, Shep, Patriot12, Chevy Shooter, and vic) that helped with the event.

And, my special thanks to the shooters that volunteered to provide dinner for all the instructors Saturday night.  It was a fantastic dinner that was greatly appreciated by all.  Thank you for doing this for us.  And, our thanks again to Dillon Sportsman Center for hosting our event.
