The first public pistol clinic in Virginia was held in fine fashion at the always wonderful Rivanna Rifle and Pistol Clinic in Charlottesville this past weekend!  10 shooters descended upon the bullseye pistol range in what turned out to be an absolutely gorgeous weekend (much to the surprise of the instructors who are used to being drenched at this particular range).  Once the safety orientation was completed an initial assessment was done via the "redcoat pistol" tombstone target.  Instruction began and students were coached on the finer points of pistol marksmanship.  Lunchtime brought the first part of the history lesson by Brother Pilot before more instruction in the afternoon, culminating in the first PQT of the weekend - two shooters shot a Pistoleer™ score, longtime friends of the Appleseed program Jon and Todd.

Sunday morning was a bit slower paced - an agreement worked out between the range and a local church had us cold until 1:30pm.  It began with an unplanned "reverse escape room" game, where instructors and shooters joined up in an attempt to enter a closed range gate (we lost and got bailed out by our range host).  Once this obstacle was overcome, we started the day with the second strike - hearts must have been stirred by Bill_P's telling because we had a phenomenal time of Q&A afterwards (fantastic student engagement).  Some dry-fire activities commenced with some other topics of interest to break up the pace a bit.  At lunch the tale of Meriam's Corner was told by The Wolfhound, which carried us right to prep time for the first redcoat of the day.

PQTs were engaged and skill drills were conducted - most useful was ball dummy done three times (two handed, left and right hand only).  Much learning occurred!  For the second day in a row, Jon and Todd scored Pistoleer™ along with requalifications from instructors Bill_P and Messer!  Honorable mentions definitely go to Mark, Tim and Arlen for getting there scores into the low 200s! The Wolfhound gave the story of Sam and Sam before the awards and benediction were had.

In all a highly successful weekend! Pictures to come!

Three cheers to all of the students that made the event a great weekend on the range, and to the Virginia Instructor Cadre for making the event both fun & safe.

Huzzah!
Huzzah!
Huzzah!

As the President of the club - I thank you all!

Stay Vigilant,
Messer
