It was good to return to Maine for the 3rd annual Skowhegan Sportsman's Club Appleseed. The club did a grand job in making the range ready and hosting the event.

19 attendees in total participated over the weekend, many of whom had minimal experience prior to the shoot. After the intro and safety Saturday the IT crew got things underway and started working on our trying hard shooters to get them sorted, slung up and steady as could be. The day progressed with the points of instruction provided at the drink from a fire hose pace, along with the three strikes throughout the day. By late afternoon 2 AQT's were fired before the end of day Redcoat.

Sunday started with a few less than Saturday, but all eager to get better. The instructors working with the shooters on an individual basis on some drills on squares along with AQT's.  During the course of the day we netted 3 shiny new Riflemen. Gabby, our Sunday walk on shooter ended up taking to the instruction and becoming a Riflewoman with a score of 213. Elizabeth, a junior shooter did the same early on and did it with a score of 215. Connor made it with a borrowed rifle and managed a 218 for his efforts, nice shooting all. BTW, Gabby and Connor did it with boltguns.

Other shooters who pushed it hard thru the weekend were Rocky with a 185 and Tyler with scores in the 170's.

The shooters were a great group to work with, much improvement seen from their efforts. A few shooters had difficulties that are only experienced when going to a class or match, but they hung tough throughout the weekend.

The club made everything go as smoothly as possible having the target line set up Friday, providing lunch and making sure everything was ready in advance. Thanks to Ami, Mark and many others whom I didn't meet but worked hard to make it happen.  We look forward to the club hosting events there in the future

The IT crew of The Old Guide, Luigi, Mwolf, Hawklady and 2nd Mile did their best to help the shooters, participate in the POI's and demos and tell some of the history. Hawklady in particular told of many women who were instrumental throughout the War of Independence. 2nd Mile covered the 2nd strike, Mwolf also added to the mix with the Betty Zane story and TOG rounded things out with some DOM stories. Luigi made it for part of Saturday, having a cert class to attend Sunday. Thanks to all for your efforts. And, the IT crew were from 4 different states.

And, last but not least, Ryan, a repeat offender from a few Appleseeds in the past, has stepped up to take an orange hat! I guess he couldn't resist that slow and steady pressure that accumulates from going to many shoots, that and a little push from Hawklady, his better half! Thanks for stepping up!. ^:)^
