Huzzah, what a great Appleseed,

We had a full line this past weekend at Meeker Sportsman Center near Marion Ohio for our last Ohio shoot of the 2016 season.  The weather was great on Saturday, low 70's sunny but a little breezy.  A full line of shooters arrived on time and we started our shoot in the usual manner.  After a welcome and the safety brief, we were on the line sending rounds down range.

The Saturday morning Red Coat yielded normal results, about 1/2 competent at 100 and not much beynond that.  Instructions followed and the shooters all showed great learning attitudes.  We had a number of family groups on the line.  One spanned four generations, another was a father/son Rev War reendactors from the 8th Pennsylvania Riflemen Company.  They became a valuable addition to the shoot.

Steady hold factors, the Six Steps, NPOA and IMC were presented and drilled and before we knew it, it was lunch and time for the First Strike. Seated and Offhand Steady Hold factors were presented and drilled and the Second Strike was presented at the afternoon break.  The AQT was introduced and both a practice and a timed AQT were shot.  The afternoon Red Coat and the Third Strike brought a great day to a close.

Sunday morning dawned overcast and warmer than expected.  Shooters returned motivated.  After the safety rebrief, a review of the POI's from Saturday morning, we went bact to the line for the morning Red Coat.  Shooters showed marked improvement over the Saturday morning Red Coat. We moved on to carding the sights and then on to the AQTs.

About 11:00AM, the wind picked up and the temps dropped about 30 degrees in about 15 minutes.  We went from short sleeves to sweatshirts and rain gear.  We made two sets of new father/son riflemen during these AQTs.  Toby and Jaden both qualified with a 224 and a 212 respectively.  Joe and Matthew both qualified with a 210 and a 217 respectively.  Joe willingly accepted his baptism in the holy water of the North Bridge for his 210.  Joe and Toby both backed up their Rifleman scores with a 214 and a 215 respectively.

Just as we were finishing our second AQT of the morning, the rain started.  Since it was lunch time, we gathered in the shoot house to stay dry and eat lunch. During lunch, we had a very special presentation by our reenactors, Joe and Matthew.  They had all the gear that a Revolutionary War trooper would have.  They talked about the manual of arms for both the British and Colonial armys, the creation of the army by Von Stuben at Valley Forge and talked about the differences between British and French muskets, rifles and fowling pieces with actual examples of all four.  Because of the rain, we chose not to have a firing demonstration but a big thank you to both attendees for making Sunday's heritage very special.

As the rain continued past 1pm, we extended the lunch by presenting the DOMs.  At the end of the DOMs and with the radar indicating we had at least another 1-2 hours of rain, it was decided that we would end the day early.  William Diamond patches were presented to the youth, and the final Sunday call to action was presented and we wound down a shortened but very special Appleseed.

Big thanks to Texas T, Cadence, Chevyshooter, cwcdl79, and RPD for working the event.  It is always great to have a shoot with great instructors like these guys.  THANKS to all of you.

See everybody next year.

A great weekend of drinking from the firehose of instruction. Mike and David, keep working at it, and next time you'll see vast improvements, you were soaking up the instruction like champs. Julie, keep persisting, and practice, and you'll find that prep time gets easier, as does the course of fire, and of course, switch out that rifle with your husband! Matthew and Joe, it was great getting to hear your stories and talk to you! Hope to see you again on the trail!

Great Weekend with willing and eager students and a great instructing crew!
Always a joy to work with Corvette, and wonderful to meet Texas T, cwcdl79 (we really have to get you a new handle!), and good to see Cadence again!
Even though we had a rain-shortened shoot, 4 individuals (2 father and son pairs) earned the Rifleman's patch!
Congrats Toby and Jaden, Joe and Matthew!!!  Jobs well-done.  Joe and Matthew thank you again for the very special
presentation!  Hopefully, next time it will be dry so we can have the presentation outside where we won't have to worry about a low ceiling!
Daniel, Mike, David, Jule (hang in there, I had some of the same frustrations and had to be CONVINCED to come back for a second A/S), Andrew, Johnny, Adam (sorry you couldn't make Day 2), the "Wes"es, Summer, Jeff, Brooke, Katie and Katie's mom (sorry I don't recall your name), I look forward to seeing you all on the line next year!  Your teachable spirits and attitudes were a pleasure for each of us instructors!

. . . I have tried SIX times to post pics.  I am just going to try to post this and then see if re-sizing the pics might make them "postable."

Cadence

Although I could only make Sunday (and abbreviated at that!), it was good to work again with Corvette, Texas T, & RPD, and meet cwcdl79.

The presentation of history and re-enacting by Joe and Matthew was outstanding. Hope you guys can find time to come to additional Appleseeds.  I really enjoyed the facts you brought forward about the Revolutionary War time frame. It was good to get another perspective. Joe - I really hope you can find the time to give us your impressions of the Appleseed program from a first time participant.

I believe that this was the first time I have been present when we had 4 generations at an event. That was awesome to see.

Congratulations to our father and son teams Joe & Matthew, and Toby & Jaden.

Hope to see all those present on the line next year!
