Shooter info for the KD Clinics in Talladega, AL

During our weekend, we'll focus on the Three Challenges of a Rifleman:  Target Identification, Range Estimation, and Making the Shot.  We will have practical exercises on all three tasks.

1. Lodging. There are a number of hotels within driving distance. Some instructors will be stay at the Days Inn or Comfort Inn in Lincoln, AL as it's about the closest to the range.

2. Registration. Check-in starts at 8am in the Clubhouse and will take a few minutes. We'll start as soon as everyone arrives, but no later than 8:30am.  Please leave all firearms and all shooting gear in the car.

3. Homework. Your shoot boss will email you any homework assignments prior to the event.

4. Range conditions. The firing line is well-covered. Bathrooms are within short walking distance. The firing line is concrete. This concrete is hard. Like diamond-hard. Plan to bring some extra padding to put under your shooting mat. A couple of old towels will help save your elbows. Did I mention the concrete is hard and you'll need some extra padding? No kidding. :-)

5. Dress for the weather. We always shoot unless the weather is dangerous. It rarely is and we're blessed with a great covered range at Talladega CMP Marksmanship Park.

6. Rifle. Bring your rifle (and your backup rifle) with a 25m/25y or 100y zero. If you have questions (or your equipment dictates otherwise), please reply to this email. Recommend your USGI sling and at least two magazines.  We will not shoot at 25y/m at this event, so arrive prepared.

7. Things to bring:

•   A teachable attitude.  :)
•   A clipboard & writing utensil. PLEASE plan on taking notes.
•   Your rifle (with 25m/25y or 100y zero) and 350-500rounds of the same kind of ammo. Mixing brands / weights / lots is discouraged. Anticipate four, possibly six AQTs and the opportunity to shoot out to 600 yards.
•   Mat with some extra padding for your elbows.
•   Food and drink as there is no food available at the range. We will have a working lunch. Lots of non-caffeinated beverages to stay well-hydrated.

8. Range fees will be collected by CMP Staff Saturday morning.

9. The CMP Marksmanship Park is an all-electronic range. We will fire real bullets at electronic targets which provide us immediate feedback on the firing line. All rounds must strike the backer on the systems. Stray rounds can damage the electronics. Because of that, shooters must confirm ability at each distance prior to moving forward to the next further target.

10.   Ammo restrictions:  To protect their targeting system, CMP Talladega has some caliber restrictions.  The one most likely to affect us is a prohibition on M855/XM855 type ammo (62g steel core rounds).  Below is their current list:

Please drop me a note with any questions or concerns.
