Left Florida and moved to SW Colorado, which led to Leadville CO. Imagine a former Florida Shoot Boss's astonishment to see snow-capped peaks upon arriving Leadville in August. Still haven't figured out how the town got its name, perhaps from digging bullets out of the door casings in the wild old 1880s town . . .
Nine shooters spent a weekend of their valuable time to learn a thing or two about shooting rifles and about how we came to have the most advanced form of government ever devised by men (and women). On Sunday those 9 shooters all returned for more. Um, a 100% return rate is an unusual thing in this world, means something.
This shoot was on life support for a while, and suddenly an entire family signed up, then other shooters, and then some unusually able instructors, whew! Scoring the Redcoat targets is always a hoot, but when tallied up, those numbers showed that a good start was made Saturday morning and shooters quickly got stronger. Teachable attitude and focus makes a difference after all. A person could spend all day on NPOA, but a 2-day doesn't allow that. Got in some histories, a small pile of AQTs, an astonishing range of weather conditions at the highest range in the country, and suddenly it was over. Turned out we had 2 new Riflemen, a new Applecore volunteer (you know, the part everyone else throws away), and 3 shooters who were close to hanging up their aprons. Couldn't have done any of that without the extraordinary IITs who staffed this, heck the Shoot Boss could only identify which way was North every now and then. And the best part was, everyone was happy. So remind me again, why do we do this?
OK, photos in just a few moments, what it's really like on the Appleseed trail.

other shoot photos, including unusual courtesy toward fellow shooter, go figure . . .

Hi Richard,

Nicely done,  looks like a great turnout.  Thanks for stepping up and breathing life into this shoot.   It was looking a bit dicey for a while.

Thanks,

Thanks to all that showed up to make this a successful shoot. Leadville is a unique place! Over 10,000 feet. Snow-capped mountains in August. Thin air. What more could you ask for?
