Ten stalwart patriots made it out to brave the forecasted 99 degree Georgia heat this past Saturday at Marion Road Gun Club. The club allowed us to erect a 25m target line so we could shoot under the shade of the covered firing line. Cover coupled with cloudiness led to the most pleasant July shoot you could ask for.

After a Redcoat target to assess shooter proficiency, we got right into instruction. Sling use in the prone position, steady hold factors, six steps of the shot and natural point of aim instruction were each followed with practical application through live firing. Groups immediately began to shrink as desired.

At our first break, we heard the stirring and true history of Paul Revere's ride,  the battle at Lexington and the price that Capt. Parker and his men paid. Talking targets was presented to show shooters how to get feedback from their shot groups. Inches Minutes Clicks was next presented for an efficient method to adjust sights once those groups are small enough. Rifleman's cadence was presented to teach shooters hoe to get those groups even smaller with one breath per shot.

Special thanks to Kyle T, president of MRGC for providing the delicious barbeque lunch. He even provided ice cream and watermelon. Kyle and MRGC are always wonderful hosts and great proponents of the program.

During our lunch break we heard the history of the battle at the North Bridge in Concord. Attentive students soaked up the details of that telling. We resumed our instruction for the sitting position, transitions and the standing position. By 2:00, we shot an AQT target. There was some really fine shooting in this group!

The Third Strike of the match was wonderfully presented, with details of the engagement at Menotomy and beyond that you simply won't get in school. It was clear that those colonists made The Choice that day, putting their lives and fortune on the line in defense of liberty. May we all have that same passion and determination!

For the last bit of action for the day, we shot steel at 100 yards after a brief presentation on full distance shooting and sight adjustment. It was common to hear students go 5 for 5 on the steel, and quite rewarding for shooter and instructor alike. We wrapped it up with a friendly competition for two Appleseed coozies. Congrats to Lauren and Al for taking the prizes!

This was the safest group of shooters this instructor has seen. They were attentive and eager to learn, to boot. Our young patriots enjoyed the history as much as the shooting ,I believe. Thank you all for coming out.  We hope to see you on the firing line again, and bring friends with you!

Sounds like the heat was enough to make things a little uncomfortable, but that you were able to Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome. Hat's off to the crew. It's hard to beat ice cream and watermelon.  O0 It would be nice if we could incorporate shooting steel at all events. The clang of lead on steel really get's your attention. As the saying goes, paper is rewarding, steel is more so.  :~

I'm glad y'all got under the cover. It is better than baking under the sun.
If I knew there was ice cream I might have stopped by.

My most sincere thanks to the volunteers who came out in the middle of July to teach us marksmanship and history! Also many thanks to Kyle for providing a great bbq lunch. Kyle, where did those hamburgers come from? They were great. The young shooters out Saturday were for sure some well mannered young Americans. You parents should be proud. Looking forward to shooting a few more redcoats in September!
