The Old Guide

We had a full line of 20 signed up, but some Vermont folks figured out that New Hampshire was closer to Vermont than Maine so four shooter transferred to a NH shoot. We had a frost before surise both days, but no excuse for a Winterseed.

We started out with 16 shooters, fourteen of whom were new Appleseeders. The Redcoat targets on Saturday morning indicated as such. Rapid improvements were made. We had a chance to show inches minutes and clicks when one newly mounted scope had no indication for sight adjustments. Turns out the scope was one click is 1/2 inch at 100 yards. It was a good learning experience.

Groups tightened because we has five "hats" to start Then Blake took the Hat to become Maine's newest Orange Hat with scoes of 242, 242 and 243 consecutively. Then Elijah took the Hat, making a total of SEVEn, (count em) SEVEN hats on the line for 16 shooters. Plenty of coaching got us to the point of having a Redcoat stage by stage before lunch on a Saturday!. Bruce made Rifleman with a 230!.

The afternoon Redcoat had double the scores of the morning and one person cleaned it.

Sunday dawned with a frost. We lost 3 shooters to church, but we made 3 riflemen Maryanne with an initial 211, followed by two more Rifleman scores. She wants a Hat at her second Appleseed which will be in Skowhegan. She is very interested in the history.  Benjamin Made it with a 211 and Ryan made it with a 218. Everybody got to shoot and there were numerous requals.

The memorial volley was stirring. North Country Lady told the First Strike. Second strike was told by 2nd Mile and I told the Third Strike on the line where I drew in the dirt a 20 foot wide map from Concord back to Boston. The visual of having a large map you can walk on is a big help for the shooters.

The final Redcoat showed huge improvements with 5 head shots and three shooters cleaning their targets. All in all, a great shoot with a splendid host club. The line is up before we arrive. They feed us and there is camping on site. Devil_Dog95 is now the club President. The neighboring 100 yard range was in use by club members. They observed all our cease fires and some of them came over to hear the history.
Our history is not a list of dates and places. It is a dynamic adventure of freedom and individual courage.
