Any shooter looking for a Winterseed patch was disappointed this weekend. The weather turned out spring like. As usual, thanks to Kevin's hard work, Watuaga Gun Club rolled out the red carpet for us. With the addition of lunch being catered both days, it doesn't get any better.

We had a good mix of shooters. New and return Appleseeders, along with an Air Force group sent to hone their marksmanship. Every single shooter gave their all, as I've come to expect at Boone. We ended up with 2 new riflemen, and 1 re-qualify.

The Poet, Kardiak Kid, Pelon, Pan858, and Laertes pitched in and made everything go smoothly. I appreciate all your help.

KARDIAK KID

NO WINTER SEED BUT LOTS OF FUN.
Dusty old helmet, rusty old gun,
They sit in the corner and wait –
Two souvenirs of the Second World War
That have withstood the time, and the hate.
Many times I've wanted to ask them –
And now that we're here all alone,
Relics all three of a long ago war –
Where has freedom gone?
Mute witness to a time of much trouble,
Where kill or be killed was the law –
Were these implements used with high honor?
What was the glory they saw?
Freedom flies in your heart like an eagle.
Let it soar with the winds high above
Among the spirits of soldiers now sleeping,
Guard it with care and with love.
I salute my old friends in the corner.
I agree with all they have said –
And if the moment of truth comes tomorrow,
I'll be free, or By God, I'll be dead!

Many thanks to the instructors and the shooters who traveled to Boone for the Winterseed... er... Appleseed!  I wish we had been able to give you some colder weather, but we get what we get up here!  I'm not so sure anyone minded, as the bright sun made for very pleasant, albeit just a little chilly shooting.  This time of year that's pretty welcome!

I was thrilled with the good turnout, and looking forward to the next event.  Several shooters failed to qualify for their rifleman patch by just a little bit.  Next time they'll get it for sure.
