What a unique Appleseed we had at Dillon Sportsman Center near Newark, Ohio this past weekend. We had a full line with a real community focus. We had three family/friend groups that attended with their childern which resulted in over half our line being youth shooters. Huzzah, passing on the Rifleman tradition to our children is the best way to preserve liberty.

The weather was sunny but cool on Saturday morning and had your shoot boss been a little smarter, we would have set the firing line out another 10 feet and we would have been in the sun instead of the shade of the shoot house.  The welcome and safety brief was presented and we brought rifles to the line.  The morning Red Coat was shot and we were off to a great start.  We had three people join Daniel Morgan's rangers and we had one cleared Red Coat.

We conducted an instructional session on how to work the stock Ruger bolt stop/release and followed this with the steady hold factors in prone. The six steps to following a shot were presented followed by the NPOA introduction.  Drills were performed and before we knew it, it was time for lunch and the First Strike.  The youth shooters were engaged in the First Strike presentation contributing a number of comments and asking great questions.

Once we were back on the line we worked on sighter targets and talked IMC.  Sights were adjusted, confirmed and we moved on to the other positions. The Second Strike was presented at the afternoon break and we moved back to the line to continue our work.

Seated and off hand instructions were presented and the day ended with the afternood Red Coat and the Third Strike.  Luther Blanchard patches were presented to a GREAT GROUP of YOUTHS and the parents were complimented on the fine job that they were doing with these great young people.  The day ended on a positive note.

Because of church and family commitments, many of the young people could not join us on Sunday but the rest of our attendees showed up Sunday morning ready to continue their work. The Sunday morning Red Coat showed great improvement. Nine of ten shooters were competent at 100, 7 of 10 at 200, 4 people joined Daniel Morgan and we had 2 cleared Red Coata.  After some NPOA drills, we moved on to the AQTs.

KD was presented at lunch and we returned to the line to make two new Riflemen.  Congrats to Jonathan and Robert on their Rifleman scores. The  Sunday Red Coat was shot and we had another cleared Red Coat and great results overall. We then brought out several M1's and we ended the day with a number of our youth shooters settling behind an M1 and banging on some steel.

It was a great weekend with a very special group of shooters.

I want to thank Charley and Lil Buddy for helping with the shoot and I want to thank the Dillon Sportsman Center for hosting our shoot.

I encourage everybody to post some replies and pictures from the event. It was a special event for me.
