Rocket Man

Well, this week, we've got flash floods and thunder...   :slap: but last weekend we had a splendid day of warm fellowship and some hot shootin'.  This is the now popular One Day Introductory Appleseed at Burro Canyon, and it marked our fourth sold-out event in a row.

We had 16 eager patch-chasers and adventure-seekers turn out to dare the desert, though we were graced with a temperate day in the (mere) upper 90's, and not much wind to speak of.  Good mix of folks, couple of families, couple of Alarm-Listers, and one returning student still after that patch...   :---

It's not easy to get the class boiled down to a single day, but we're getting better at it.  I was backed up by stalwarts BuckleNose (David) and Whangdoodle (Dan) (you think they gave each other their names??  ??? ) and even by the first square we could already see the difference on paper.  The target never lies, after all, not even a polite little white lie.   @)

At lunchtime, we had a special event as intrepid IIT Dan ran through the whole Three Strikes for us, along with copious Q and A from L to R and all points in between.  It is stirring, yet sobering, to reflect that so innocent a gathering would have been considered treasonous under the tyrant Gage... and that so many of the lessons our forefathers and foremothers learned still ring true today, but are often forgotten.   :-[

After lunch and back to work, transitions and the clock all joined us on the line and fired up the joint.  We had time enough for a slow practice AQT, followed by an "official" one for score.  One-day Riflemen are a rare breed, even though the scores weren't half-bad, and I think most of the class surprised themselves.

Turns out, though, we did have a Rifleman hiding in our midst -- Phil, working on the end with an AR-15, didn't score until he got home but surprised himself with a solid 222!     Pity we couldn't [strike]embarrass[/strike] congratulate him in front of the class, but no matter.  We did, however, take time to think of Luther Blanchard, and honor his spirit among us in the form of two brothers, and two sisters on the line.   ..:..

SO... Next shoot is in September, and it's already on the verge of selling out, so don't delay.  See you there?  ^:)^
