AAR Worland KD 06/07June2015
What a disappointment.  What a great weekend.  Both statements applied to our Known Distance shoot this weekend.  The disappointment lay in the fact that there were just 5 of us participating: Rasputin, pewpewpew, Wholigan, rocket and myself.  It was great because all of us learned a lot; the weather cooperated; and we had fun.
Thanks to Wholigan and Nick Nickelson of the Worland Shooting Complex who made the shoot possible.  This is a great range generally and specifically the 700yd range that we had for the weekend.
Saturday dawned with flash flood warnings and angry skies all around, but no rain in Worland!  We all met at the range at 0800.  After the Pledge of Allegiance and safety briefing, we went over the KD basics and then proceeded to zero our rifles (ARs and one Garand) at 25, and then again at 100 to verify.  Once BSZ was achieved, we worked on comeups to 400.  Finally, we got to AQTs.  Eyeopening and humbling!  We had no Riflemen, though some were scoring in the 170s.  No wind on Saturday, but there was on Sunday  which really put the shooters to the test.  Yes, all the basics of 25M Appleseeds apply, but with distance and wind thrown in, errors really are magnified.  Know which direction you turn sight adjustments!
If we'd had more shooters, we would have had to use the pits at 700 and moved the firing line for each stage.  We were able to post targets at each distance and leave the firing line fixed.  Either way, you come to appreciate the time savings of 25M.
Thanks to all: you did a great job!

Mr. Aufbau

It sounds as if a great time was enjoyed by all- congratulations on an interesting event!
