In spite of weather challenges, we had a very successful and enjoyable first shoot at the Coshocton Gun Club in Coshocton, Ohio.  With 14 dedicated and persistent shooters on the line and fine group of instructors,  we dodged heavy rains, moved the schedule around several times, moved the entire line once to "high ground" to get out of the slop and still managed to have a great event.

Shooters persisted and eveybody improved greatly.  Even with all the wet rifles, gear and clothes, all pressed on with a great attitude and we have a super first event.  More detailed AAR and photos to follow.

What a weekend. Almost thought I was back in Michigan, since one of our sayings is "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes, it will change."

I was impressed by the dedication of all of out shooters, you guys all did a wonderful job on and off the line and through all of our challenges. Thanks for letting me crash the party :)

Since I know the boss wants pics, they are all uploaded here publicly: https://www.facebook.com/projectappleseedohio

But for you Non-Facebook people here are a few of them

Huzzah, what a great first Appleseed at the Coshocton Gun Club, in Coshocton, Ohio.  We had 14 shooters brave a terrible forecast looking to improve their skills. The rain held off only as long as the welcome and safety brief.  The first of many showers started early Sat morning and were our constant companion on and off during the day.  We shot the morning Red Coat with some outstanding results.  We had 9 of 14 hit the 100 yard target, 3 at 200, 2 at 300 and 3 at 400.  We had 4 join Daniel Morgan's rangers and one cleared Red Coat (by a returning Rifleman).

Instructions began with the steady hold factors in prone, the six steps and NPOA during intermitant rain. We braved the rain to practice our instructions and it slacked off mid-morning to allow us time for trigger drills, and more shooting. We broke for an early lunch and the first strike when the first heavy rain came through.

After lunch, we returned to the line to continue our work. We got through the seated position and several drills when the next heavy rain came through. We did the second strike and IMC during that rain storm and returned to the line in the afternoon to work on off-hand. We just started our off hand drills when the biggest rain of the day came through and washed out the day. No Sat PM Red Coat.  We broke down the line, and everybody found covered spots to drape their mats to drain and dry over the evening.

Sunday started wet.  We moved the line down range to just back from the left side of the berm because it was highest portion of the range and the only part not under water. The Sun morning Red Coat showed amazing improvement. We had 11 of 14 qualify at 100, 8 at 200, 7 at 300, 3 at 400, 3 joined Daniel Morgan and we had 2 cleared Red Coats.

We picked up where we left off and introduced the AQT.  We got one through the practice AQT and one timed one when the last heavy rain came through.  We did a Rev War Flag heritage lecture while we waited out the heavy rain which thankfully was the last of the weekend. Once we got back to the line, the Riflemen came to the fore.

Dan requalified with a 236
Kevin with a 219
Steve with a 211

Steve got baptised with water from the North Bridge as his first AQT was a 209 and his second was a 211 so that looks like two 210's to me hence the baptism. See Rascal21's pictures.

Tori made great strides from Sat am to Sunday.  Her last two AQTs were 170 and 196.  One more Appleseed and I bet she will be over the top.

We kept a close eye on the radar and we wrapped up a little early with a DOM and a call to action to give everybody time to break down the line before the next rain front could come through. The weekend ended on a high note with everybody excited by their improvement and by the heritage.  We look forward to our next shoot at the CGC.
