Roswell, GA - April 19, 2015 - SharpShooters USA - One Day Event

We had 13 shooters for this one day event at SharpShooters USA in Roswell, GA on April 19th. Quite an auspicious number I must say.   The weather was in one word, nasty. However, we were not too concerned. While the rest of my Appleseed brothers and sisters were braving the weather, we were blessed with of all the luxurious accommodations a state-of-the-art INDOOR range has to offer. As always, they were extremely accommodating and we were met at the door by the VP himself. Quickly, we began setting up the range and classroom and were checking people in by 8:30.

We quickly got through the safety briefing and began engaging redcoats. We were pleased to see, Doug, one of the Patriots joining us from the military cleaned the target on his first redcoat and first Appleseed!    After that the firehose of instruction was unleashed beginning with Sling Use, Prone Position and the Steady Hold Factors.

Quickly, quickly moving on from there through IMC, even working in relays, we were hopping until we broke for lunch just after noon. The First 2 Strikes of the match were then delivered to a very captive audience. After finishing lunch, we cleaned the classroom up and moved out to make way for another class before returning to the range.

Upon returning, shooters began making sight adjustments from measurements made prior to lunch.  We shot a verification square and were then on to the Seated positions. Soon after we introduced the students to evil Mr. stopwatch and we really started moving.

We took a break to hear the 3rd Strike with Samuel Whittemore mixed in. Then it was on to standing position and the AQT. Working in relays we managed to get, not 1, but 2 AQTs in. By then most of us were pretty spent, but after a vote some of the Patriots decided they still had some lead to give to the Redcoats. And give they did! Even with a smaller group then we had begun with, improvements were shown across the board. Doug had to leave early to take care of a baby-sitting issue and graciously left his wife, Anna, in our hands rather than both of them leaving. (He earned brownie points with us and her on that one, LOL). Despite his absence, we had another Patriot clean the afternoon redcoat! Good job Bambi!

Beaten and tired we closed the day with handing out the Bloody Butcher Bulletin and a reading of the first paragraph. In keeping with the somber tone, the events of the Siege of Boston through the darkness of 1776 was related. Concluding with encouraging words from Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry it was evident that fires of Liberty do indeed still burn bright some Americans and we were fortunate enough to be in their presence.

After cleaning up, the instructors and some of the shooters all went to dinner together at Dreamland BBQ nearby. As they say in the South, a good time was had by all.

While we had no riflemen at this event, I feel confident that all of you can earn your patch. Remember, perfect practice makes perfect. A Rifleman persists!

Then it was time to engage some AQTs! 


It was interesting that during relay 1 with eight lanes, we had five women shooters on the line. (Anna, I am sorry for not getting your picture. Anna was our 6th female shooter out of 13, but she was in relay two)
