Ramblin' Wreck

This event started out as instructor-only and even though it was opened up to previous Appleseeders two weeks out we still only had one non instructor shooting.

Pelham is a great venue with a really nice classroom and a range where we can shoot out to 900 yards if you have something that will shoot that far. The range manager at The Elk River Training Center, Paul Granda, is very friendly to Project Appleseed and has gone out of his way to accommodate us at every shoot we've had there. We're looking forward to at least 2 KD events there and several 25 meter events in 2015.

With a one day event, dark starting before 5 PM, and a room full of instructors we elected to skip classroom instruction on target detection and range estimation. I asked Rusty to conduct the trajectory portion to make sure everyone was on the same page on where they could expect their holes to appear at distance based on the trajectory tables they were asked to bring as part of their pre shoot assignment.

We were on the 25 yard line to confirm zero and began shooting sighters and a qualifying AQT by 9:30 with 11 shooters.  The goal for the day was twofold. First, to make sure every shooter knew their rifles well enough to be confident of where their holes would appear at each distance out to 400 yards. Second, to give every shooter the opportunity to qualify or re qualify KD in 2014.  We gathered and recorded data and by the end of the first AQT we had two new KD Riflemen and 4 requals.

The new Riflemen scores were registered by Regulator and EddieB who proved his hits count score of 41 on the first AQT wasn't a fluke by shooting another 41 on the next AQT. Requals were recorded by Tn_Dadx5, Morpheus, Rusty and the old Shoot boss, Ramblin' Wreck.

It was a great weekend with fellow patriots with great weather, not counting the soggy areas, and some really good shooting. I look forward to doing this again frequently as we move into 2015.

Please post pictures if you took 'em.

See you on the line.

A superb wrap-up to the Tennessee Valley Project Appleseed for 2014! Sincere thanks to Ben, Rusty and Steve, and special recognition to Paul at Elk River!, in bringing this awesome Saturday to reality. We got a spectacular day of camaraderie and full distance.

Merry Christmas to all!

Stage 1...

EddieB was very happy with his target!  (He qual'd twice!)

Marty receiving his rocker.

Qualifiers and requalifiers!

The prize for high score of the day went to TnDadx5.  (Our Shoot Boss shot a 48/50, but was ineligible for the prize.  He seemed to want it, though.   ;D  )

It was a great day... thanks for putting this together, Wreck!

Good company and good food before we head home.

Looks like a real nice range. Congrats to those who got their rockers.

I'll be there in March next year to give it another try.
Now who can argue with that?
