I think you're missing Alexandria on 2/9/2014 for 35:

My total gives you 328, which is 3rd in the nation, only 5 back from Texas Alabama, but still a ways to go to catch Indiana.

Thanks!  I knew I was missing one, but I couldn't find it.  Fixed the running total.

How are they converting to Blue hats, Orange hats or AS attendees? Have you come up with a way to track their involvement with AS?

Speaking as the stats guy, there's no way to track between the programs.  Since we don't take tickets for LS, the attendees are pretty much anonymous unless they choose to give contact info to one of the speakers.  (Heck, we have enough trouble tracking AS attendees, since their only 'identity' is their e-mail - which is not always unique or stable - unless they choose to step forward.)

However, we're regarding crowds at Libertyseeds as good in and of themselves, regardless of whether the people ever go to a shoot.  It is not primarily a promo program for AS, it's an attempt to get the message out directly, rather than relying on the 'bait' of a shooting program.  That said, it does need to eventually stand on its own feet by building a cadre of storytellers, who aren't necessarily going to be wearing AS hats.

OK, that makes sense.

Here's my point though. One of the ways that AS brings people together is the story of April 19, 1775. Another way is the use of a tool called marksmanship. A third way is the shared adversity that every shoot or boot camp brings to it's attendees.

My first shoot in July 2008 was at Ramseur in 97 degree temps and 90% humidity. Talon was the shootboss, Junior Birdman, Dragginwood, and Crashkid2k were the instructors, boltgun71, Matt, AzWildcat2001, SgtCap and Hawkeye were the Orange hats. It was a tough weekend and tested everyone, students and instructors alike. That's the thing, the shared hardship forged a bond. I still communicate with most of those people.

The second bootcamp that I worked was in Feb 2010. The students there included, West, Lawrence, Spanner, TheMachine, George63, Dragonfly, and Jeremy (whose handle I can't remember). Instructors were Crashkid2k, Kdan, and myself.

When I meet a former student at a Highpower match or a shooting range, they recall not just what I said, but what we shared. That's a powerful tool and I think that the success of Appleseed is related to that shared adversity. While it is minimal compared to bootcamp. And it is nothing in comparison to combat or what the founders went through, it is something that brings us together.

If we are still in the cadre building stage, finding a way to convert some of those Liberty Seed Attendees to instructors or students should be a priority, I would think.

A benefit, but a secondary priority.  Since I was there when the decision was taken to make LS a full-up program, I think I can speak with some accuracy on the reasoning.  The idea is that a significant part of the population is now aware that there is something 'wrong' with our governance.  Some are just uneasy, some have a few words to describe it, some are all the way to saying "this isn't what the Constitution promises".  This isn't edgy militias any more, this is things like D'Souza's "America" film and columns in not-so-fringe newspapers talking about "Is it 1776 again?"  Those people, we don't need to "bait and switch" with a shooting program;  we need to be arming them intellectually to understand what's afoot, the price that was once paid for what is being destroyed, and that might have to be paid again.  And give them some accurate information (no, it was 1775!).  Whether or not they ever pick up a rifle or come to an Appleseed, that's worth doing, as the primary purpose of the Libertyseed program - which is not the same as the Appleseed program.  Both programs ultimately need to stand on their own feet, while encouraging cross-pollination of instructors and attendees.  If LibertySeed is just another thing for Appleseed instructors to do, it loses - we've all got lots to do.  If LibertySeed is just another promo channel for Appleseed, it loses - there are more people who won't pick up a rifle who need to hear our story than will.
