The Southern Minnesota Rifle Club in Rochester MN was host to a great group of Appleseeders this weekend. We had a full line and a very persistent bunch of shooters, two qualities that make any Appleseed weekend a success.

Saturday dawned cloudy with rain showers in the forecast, but that did not deter any of the pre-registered shooters from showing up! After our intro and safety briefing, 24 took to the line to stare down the Redcoats on the first target of the day. Even though there were a high number of new shooters only 10 were unable to qualify with three rounds in any of the targets. Not a bad start! We then turned on the firehose of instruction which the shooters were urged to drink from. We waited until lunchtime came (and the rain) to hear the First Strike of the Match by FreedomV which was followed by the Second Strike of the Match by ColonialIron. With the rain lingering we stayed in the clubhouse and had the shooters pair up for an NPOA drill using dummy M14 stocks and laser pointers. Very effective!! The rain wasn't over yet but it was time to get back to the line and continue putting holes into soggy targets. With the afternoon break we were treated to the Third Strike of the Match by Kosciusko (Mr. Unpronounceable, call him "K"). We had time for one AQT and then the final Redcoat to finish off the day's shooting. The one AQT did reveal one new shooter who knows very much what he is about, Jeff K. shot a 219 on his first AQT of his first Appleseed! Well done Sir! Huzzah!

Sunday dawned a beautiful sunrise on a chilly morning. (Yes, I said chilly. It was 40 and I do live in Georgia now, so that is chilly!) We had 13 returning shooters and added the 12 year old daughter of FreedomV to the line. The shooters went through the review and we went into the Ball and Dummy drill before our first AQT of the day. At lunch, a number of instructors gave some inspiring stories of Dangerous Old Men and Gallant Women and Children. During the AQT grind we found two more targets that exceeded the minimum for the standards of a Rifleman. Doug P. scored a 212 and Judith N. scored a 211! Well done to you both and HuzzaH!!

I want to say what a pleasure it was to be the Shoot Boss for this Appleseed this weekend. It was definitely worth the trip from GA to be amongst the likes of these fine Americans in Rochester.  Minnesota is in great hands with the cadre I had the honor to work with this weekend. Thank you to all who gave of their time to be there and to the shooters who persisted and made the effort to drink from the firehose of instruction and listened to the real story of April 19, 1775. Our Founders would be proud of this bunch.

I hope to see all of you again soon on the Appleseed Trail.

May Liberty Increase!

It was a pleasure to have you as SB for our event.  All the instructors agreed that we learned some new  and valuable things from you as well.

You are welcome back any time.

PS        did the laser trainer make it past the TSA security check?

Morpheus, I enjoyed meeting you and working with this past weekend!  I found a new understanding towards focus on verbatim instruction!   It was great to work with you!

Hello all!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the group on Saturday and will attend again down the road.  The book I have been reading, 1775-A GOOD YEAR FOR REVOLUTION by Kevin Phillips, doesn't go into the details of the events of April 19, 1775 nearly as much as your Three Strikes presentation did.  I need to find a book that is more detailed on who did what and when.

As I stated in your meeting, very well done!

Thank you, Sir!

Much of our "3 Strikes" history comes from "Paul Revere's Ride" by David Hackett Fisher. It is a very enjoyable and well researched book.

Thank you for your kind words and critique on Saturday.

Your return to one of our lines would be most welcome, especially if you bring others along!

Thank you so much for the book suggestion, I will get a copy ASAP.

As for returning with new recruits,  I mentioned it to my Dentist on Monday and my Dr. today.  My Dr. has a 13 year old son and I am certain they will both attend in the near future.

I wish there had been a Project Appleseed when I was about 45 years younger!

They didn't even give it a second look. I will reveal it to the GA cadre this weekend in Elberton. (anyone know where I can get an M-14 stock? ;))
