Last weekend saw yet another memorable Appleseed event at Salem Hunting Club.  Jake and his crew hosted us in high style, providing lunch both days AND transportation for our gear to the firing line.  I hope our students (18 on Saturday, 21 on Sunday) appreciated the effort by the Club.  I KNOW the instructor crew did!

Weather was a factor on Saturday, with thunderstorms forecast.  But all the pre-registered students braved the elements to participate anyway.  The day began with a light, misty drizzle that gradually turned into a buckets-pouring deluge at the end of the day!  Students, instructors, and gear were soaked through.  Invictus Maneo reported pouring a half-cup of water out of his rifle when he cleaned it that night!  Fortunately, Birdman supplied some heavy-duty cardboard for the target backers that survived the entire weekend.

Six junior shooters, ranging in age from 8 to 14, persisted through the deteriorating weather right along with the adults.  The instructors were all proud of their spirit and their attitude through the weekend.  If they are a representative sample of our posterity, the future is in good hands!

The weather was every bit as great on Sunday as it was lousy on Saturday, sunny, but not too hot.  Perfect Appleseed weather.  And the students rose to the occasion!  Jake, Kevin, Dan, Ryan and Glenn showed their marksmanship expertise by qualifying.  Five of twenty-one?  Huzzah!  There were also two "cleaned" Redcoats, Tom in the AM, and Kevin after his qualifying score in the afternoon.  And two others were sooooo close to qualifying.  Michele and Joe were both within ONE SHOT of a qualifying score.

After the final redcoat, Birdman generously offered to let anyone interested fire a couple rounds through "the greatest battle implement ever devised".  There were a few who took him up on the offer, but none walked away from the Garand with a bigger smile than Brandon - eight years old!  And I have to mention in closing that the best group with the battle rifle was fired by Brandon's sister, Kalie.  Just sayin', guys.

Thanks to Jake and the Salem Hunting Club. Nothing could have been better...well except for the rain on Saturday. Jake slipped up a bit there.  :)
The fabulous group of Americans on the line did a marvelous job, especially during the rain on Saturday. Everyone put the 6 steps and NPOA to practice and improvement was see up and down the firing line.
Shooters- keep practicing what you learned and get thee to another Appleseed event!
Instructors-What a fine group. Thank you, thank, you thank you! It was a pleasure to work with you.
EZ3-Thank you for jumping into Ohio to help us out, and bringing Lee #2 over as well.
Salem Hunting Club- Thank you most of all. An Appleseed Event would be hard to do without a rifle range.....oh, and good food!
Here are the pictures I took on Sunday:
