An ammo drought couldn't stop determined Bay Area Americans from turning out for our shoot at Castro Valley's Chabot Gun Club.  We had 32 on the line on Saturday and 29 on Sunday, with 38 individuals all told.  Not only that, several shooters generously sold ammo at their cost to those who were short, so no one ran dry.  We had beautiful 'seeding weather, with some wind in the afternoons to keep things interesting.

In deference to the ammo shortage, we started with some dry practice drills, along with a lengthy session making sure that everyone's kit was well sorted, and steady hold factors as well.  But soon rounds were headed downrange.

We broke for lunch and the first two strikes of the match, with IIT haleson stepping up with the story of the fight at the North Bridge.

Saturday afternoon saw an innovation, as the 'California bazooka' joined the 'Mass.-legal rifle' in our demonstration arsenal:

It's hard to keep a cheek weld when you're laughing that hard.    **)  (There is a back story... ** )

We ended the day with a telling of the third strike by Edheler (Mike), border-raiding all the way from Pennsylvania.  What better thing to follow an Apple Devcon than an Appleseed?  Thanks for visiting!

Paul was our new youth shooter for the weekend.  Posterity!  (Sarah was also a returning shooter.)

Thanks to Laurie for bringing cookies on Sunday to keep our blood sugar levels up.  Apples for Appleseeders!

It seems ball and dummy is the only time we slow down long enough to take photos of the shooters.

Shooters double-teamed by buddies and instructors

And we found four riflemen this weekend.  Mike S nailed it early, and then upped his game to a weekend-high 228!   ^:)^

Rob didn't think he'd made it, because the evil shoot boss kept hiding his targets.   >:D  But in fact that's a batch of three qualifying AQTs he's holding!

I think we surprised Kevin, too!  Oh, yeah, this was his first time out with a rifle!   O0  Well done!

Angelo kept improving his score all afternoon, and made it across the finish line on the last AQT of the day.

So there's another one in the books for Castro Valley.  We had some shooters heart-breakingly close to qualifying scores, and others knocking on the door in the 180s and 190s.  Get in some dry practice, check out those targets linked above, and we'll see you next time!

Post up your photos if you've got 'em - we ran a little short in that department this time.

(** The story:  It developed that we needed a model who could do full cross-legged, so I dropped into position.  The demo stocks were already being used, so I started out using a 'pantomime' rifle, but some witty soul passed over the pool noodle we'd been chopping up for stock build-ups.  A little difficult to get sling mounts on that, but we're working on it!)

And don't forget our upcoming Bay Area shoots:

June 29-30, women-only Lady Seed at San Jose's Metcalf range.

August 31 one-day 'known distance' shoot at the Metcalf range.  Returning Appleseeders only - distance shooting out to 200 yards for centerfire rifles and 100 yards for rimfire.

Info on both of those shoots here:  http://www.appleseedinfo.org/search-states-location.php?locationid=302

And we're back at Castro Valley the third week in August.

Hope to see you again!
