The Appleseed Event held in New Bremen, NY on June 8th and 9th was a wonderful event!!!! Many, many thanks to the fine members of the New Bremen Fish and Game Club for hosting this event and for all the support that they have given the entire Appleseed Program for so many years. Their efforts have enriched countless RIFLEMEN!!!!

The weather forecast was questionable but turned out perfect for the entire weekend.

Saturday morning started out very slowly but the pace was soon to increase. Instructors Gunville and Grumpy1 jumped into high gear sharing their knowledge with the students. Lunch was shared with a club member that sat in on the second strike. The students worked hard and demanded a 3:00 p.m. history break. Grumpy1, fresh from an IBC on Battle Road itself, gave a WONDERFUL Third Strike! And then it was a rush back to the line for more marksmanship. And true marksmanship it was. By the time the smoke cleared at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday evening, Keith #2 had punched timed AQT rifleman scores of 226, 235, 228, 232, 225 and CLEARED HIS REDCOAT! Congratulations to first time RIFLEMAN Keith #2. This was his second Appleseed Event. Keith #1 was deep into the Riflemen's bubble and Dick was throwing his bolt in record time! The hard work of instructing done on the line by Gunville and Grumpy1 really showed positive results. Gunville used up all of his markers just scoring the flood of high scoring targets!

The students and instructors really pulled out all of the stops on Saturday. A SUPER EFFORT!

Sunday was a beautiful sunny day. Perfect for KD. The centerfires came out of the cases and the day began with Redcoats at 25m, the KD instruction and then out to the 400 yard range. Groups were fired and then measured with the dollar bills that Dick kept reaching into his wallet for (Dick, you got any money?).

At the break for lunch, a special deck of cards was produced and again Dick very, very slowly reached again for his wallet (Dick, you got any money?) but, this time was different. We were all given a rare treat as each student drew cards and in turn, recited from the drawn cards, three short history presentations each! The students all gave wonderful stories. Thank you all for stepping forth.

Sunday afternoon was back to the KD line and more instruction on wind estimation. The students ran FDAQT's with the centerfires out to 400 yards or worked the 100 yard range with rimfires. Keith #1 with an AR, took the high honors at 300 and 400 yards. Keith #2 with a M1 Grand, took High honors at 100 and 200 yards. And Dick not to be outdone turned in an EXCELLENT rimfire group on a simulated 600 yards. Then it was back to the 25m line to confirm zeros, a much welcomed NPOA drill (NOT ANOTHER!) and then the final Redcoat Target.

The weekend passed much to quickly, as it always does at New Bremen. We all left with happy memories of the Appleseed Event, nightly trips for pizza at Vinney's and to Wishy's Ice Cream.

Instructors Gunville and Grumpy1 were the backbone of this event and made many things possible. The students all did fantastic. Again, well deserved congratulations to first time RIFLEMAN Keith #2.

We hope to see you all at the next Appleseed Event.
