Another D.O.M.

This was our premier event at the Saugerties Fish & Game club and was scheduled as a club members only event on rather short notice.  Despite this, there were three club members who gave up their weekend to attend our program - thanks go to Dan, Bill and Fabio for coming out to the program, and for your fabulous hospitality.

The club has a covered firing line on their rifle range, which spared us from the worst of Saturday's rain storms.  Though quite himid, it was ralatively cool and breezy.  Sunday was just a perfect summer day!

Thanks also to LittleMo and The Mrs. who changed their plans last-minute so that they could help with the instruction.

Fabio, my main contact at the club and BOTG, also cooked hot dogs and burgers for lunch both days, a welcome treat.

As always, skills improved noticeably throughout the weekend.  After mastering his relaxation technique while shooting squares, Bill shot a dime-sized group of 5 at 25 meters.  Not too shabby for a fellow who hasn't shot a rifle in over two years.  Fabio and Dan both shot 209 on different AQTs, but didn't make it over the hump.  A west-facing range made it all but impossible to see the targets past 5:00 PM; and we knocked off at 4:00 on Sunday to accommodate the request of a neighbor.

All three students thoroughly enjoyed the history, and all three are literally on the brink of shooting rifleman.  With some practice between now and our next event at Saugerties (tentatively scheduled for October 20 & 21, 2012), these guys will be shooting in the 230s.

Thanks to everyone for a thoroughly enjoyable weekend!

WELL DONE!!!!!! A first Appleseed is so very special to all. The team of Mark, Sue and Gary present the history in such a way that cuts right to a persons heart. So much to learn and so few pockets to put it all in!!!!! They INSPIRE!!!! The AQT is the great leveler and teacher for everyone, every time. And the REDCOATS are the delight of every day!!!! It sounds like it was a wonderful event for all. GOOD JOB!!!!

The Mrs.

Many thanks to all.

Mark and Fabio for making this happen.  Saugerties Fish and Game is a great place with great people.  O0

Bill, Dan and Fabio were great to have on the line.  Despite the challenges (downpours on Saturday morning/early afternoon) blinding sun on both afternoons, these guys persevered.  Dan and Fabio were so very close (209)......had some ice water in the cooler to dunk them with.  Next time I bet ;)

Bill too was a trooper.  He loved them squares.  Nice and tight.  But those guys lookin' back at him were the bane of his exitance  :wb: :wb:  Bill I'm lookin' forward to seeing you again on the line.  Next time I'm sure you will make those silloettes sit up and take notice!!

A great weekend, sharing company with the likes of Mark, Gary, Fabio, Dan and Bill.  Honing the skills of our heritage and learning what our fore-parents went through to being us the opportunity of this great country of ours.

Pics to follow.

A HUGE Thank You to Saugerties Fish & Game Club for hosting Project Appleseed! And Thanks to Fabio and Mark for putting this members only event together on a short notice.

Bill had wanted to check Appleseed out and was surprised with the quality of instruction and detail he, Fabio, and Dan received. This was reflected in their improvement each day. Fabio and Bill were so close - 209! Dan is a big history fan and soaked up the 3 strikes!

Some of the trap shooters came over to check out the action and picked up some information and flyers from our information/check-in table on Sunday. Perhaps we may see some of these folks on the line next time. :)

The weather was challenging on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday saw several rain storms and high humidity. Sunday was very warm. We adapted and made good use of the covered line and the club house.

Plans are already in the making for a public Appleseed at this great and supporting club. The club is easy to get to and is only minutes away from exit 20 of the NYS Thruway. It is worth the trip!
