Maximize your Appleseed energy to make this program grow, and help fill the empty spots

This was another great Appleseed at the home range of the RWVA. We had 36 shooters on Saturday and 30 shooters on Sunday. Weather was pretty good for this time of the year in central NC. Warm and sunny on Saturday with temps reaching the low 80's and Sunday was much cooler in the low 60's.

We started the Appleseed with our welcome and safety briefing. The shooters retrieved their rifles from their automobiles and safely brought them to the firing line. We centered them up to go over range commands, safety rules(again), and explain the Red Coat target. Instruction on steady hold factors for the prone position with a web sling, six steps to firing the shot, natural point of aim, inches minutes clicks, rifleman's cadence, and ball and dummy. It was time for the lunch break and Sadman told the first strike of the match. Instruction for the sitting and standing positions followed, and then combining transitions from standing and sitting with a mag change. We took a small break for Sadman to tell the 2nd strike of the match. Just before we completed the last rapid fire prone/300 yard target we stopped to get ready for the nation wide volley fire. We quickly stapled the red coat targets and readied ourselves for the reading of the names of the fallen at Lexington, and at 4pm EST shots rang out all over this great country as the names were read, one at a time. We then completed the last of the practice rapid fire prone targets and moved on to the AQT.  We only shot one AQT on Saturday but a few shooters came very close to making Rifleman. We ended the day with Sadman finishing the 3 strikes of the match and then everyone shooting a final red coat target. I gave the benediction and thanked the shooters for coming out to learn about the heritage and marksmanship of 4/19/1775.

We started Sunday off with Hawkeye giving a short class on how to break down an M1 Garand, where to buy a few(CMP) ;), and how to lube it. The Kid instructed the Known Distance class and then we were off to shoot the Red Coat target followed by a few sighter squares. Next came an AQT and our first Rifleman of the Appleseed. Some of the shooters headed to the 500 yard range to confirm their 25 yard zero and engage steel targets at 200-500 yards. By the end of the day with many AQT's under our belts, 5 new Rifleman had emerged. This weekend saw 2 new Rifleman(Bob Owens & Adena) join the volunteers at the RWVA and take the Orange Hat. HUZZA!

I'd like to thank all of the Instructors: Hawkeye, Law Man, The Kid, iron pony, Sadman, The Beard, Grathlong, len1459, KARDIAK KID, cdavidhord, kd_deadeye, RIP, Goliath, wildman, Bob Owens and Adena.
