Arizona Appleseed had the great pleasure of fielding a four man team for the 2012 Desert Warrior Sustainment Exercise held at the Florence Military Reservation over the weekend.  Also known as "All Weapons Weekend", the exercise brought together over 35 teams from various military services to test their marksmanship skills with a variety of firearms.

The Arizona team, or the "Appleseeds" as we started to become known as, performed very well, winning the Infantry Trophy match, taking third place in an event called Florencestan, and holding our own very well in an unknown distance shooting event with wildly varying winds.  We placed highly in nearly every other event as well, placing us in the top few teams overall for the weekend.  All of this was done with rack grade M-16s, and ordinary ammunition.  And our GI web slings which we brought from home, of course!

Teamwork and friendship were the themes for the weekend amongst every team participating.  Interacting with the brave men and women of our country's armed services was definitely the highlight of our weekend.  They are a great bunch of folks, and deserve our thanks for the work that they do for the country.
Many of the military shooters didn't know what an Appleseed shoot was about.  Fortunately, we were armed with a wide variety of Appleseed promotional material which we handed out at every chance we got.  I am very confident we will see some of those shooters on our lines in the near future!

At the end of the weekend, the AZ team was full of AZOpie's world famous smoked pork, made many new friends, and is ready to take some of the skills we learned and use them to more effectively teach our shooters.

And finally - AZ Appleseed wishes to express it's sincere gratitude and thanks to the folks at the Florence Military Reservation for the invitation and making it a reality for everyone involved.
