Hi,

I just took part in my first Appleseed last weekend and I must say I had a great time.

I didn't catch the names of the orange hats (I got lost and showed up late), but Paul and "Old Grunt" AND the orange hats were fantastic instructors and great people.  I really learned a lot and enjoyed the day.

My parents had a car battery die on Sunday, so I had to go pick them up and loan them my car instead of coming to shoot, but I can't wait to get out to the range and practice what I learned.  I fully intend to participate again in the future, and this time I hope to make rifleman as well as bring along some more friends and some family.  ;)

I was asked to post suggestions for improvement...  and the only thing I can think of is that if the range is going to be at the end of a dead-end road with a sign telling people "stop, authorized vehicles only" you might want to post a sign or two along the way saying "APPLESEED THIS WAY --->"

Me and my buddy got completely lost and basically only found the event because we ignored the sign and drove on anyway.

Also... I don't know what can be done about it, but we tried to input the address in google maps and it sent us to the intersection of highway 160 and 162nd St. which is on the opposite side of Oxford than the range is actually located at.  :o

We almost gave up and went home, but I am sure glad we didn't.

Anyway,  Krishna and I really enjoyed the event.  Thanks for your instruction and I hope to see you again at future events or around the greater Wichita area.

As an addendum, Krishna and I are planning to head out to the Cheney range this weekend to practice what we learned and if anyone else is planning to go let us know and we can meet up :)\

We really love Lake Afton shooting range (and go whenever we can), but it is only open every other weekend to the public.  We plan to try Cheney for the first time this week as it is an "off-week" for Afton and we really want to shoot some more while our training is fresh.

Unfortunately I had other commitments...couldn't attend. Hope to see you later this year...

hahah, yes, Krishna and I both saw his jeep and we were very impressed.  It was almost like visiting a museum where we also got to practice shooting :)

Glad you liked it, its too bad you couldn't make it out on Sunday with Krishna.  He showed up around 2:30.  Just in time for some more history, a black powder demonstration, and a handful of AQT targets.  Good point about the signs.  I remember being a little confused myself when I went to my first one last year.  Maybe we should put one at the intersection there in town and another one up by the stop sign at Joe's house.    Usually we have someone stand up there to wave people in, but they had already come back down by the time you guys drove up.

Joe's jeep is pretty cool, but I don't think that .50 is functional.   Makes a neat display though!

I might be up for some shooting this weekend.   God knows I need the practice.  You'll probably outshoot me since I'm usually busy watching other people shoot at an Appleseed and I'm pretty rusty.   I've decided that I need to get my skill level back up and shoot that rifleman score again before I will move up and get my red hat.    I managed to do it once last year (barely), but I want to prove to myself that I can do it again, preferably with a centerfire this time.

Okay I will have Ben get us some signs made up and I will make sure this gets changed on the EIP.

Ian, PM me about places to shoot.  I have some Ideas for you.

I am glad you two had a good time.  I am looking forward to working with you again.  Get signed up for the Euerka shoot and plan on staying with us.  A few of us get out there Friday night.  The bunk houses are clean and the stargazing is awesome.

Hi all. I had a great time this weekend and met some cool people. It was a very nice place out there too. I thought I'd been to most of the places near Wichita but Oxford was new to me. I would definitely do another shoot. Was thinking of doing one after I'd completed my AR build. The only downside to the weekend was the crazy way in which my rear sight broke :-/

Like Ian said, we try to go shooting every weekend. Look forward to whoever wants to come out. And we're always looking for new places to shoot. The Eureka event sounds interesting. I'll have to see if that's doable.
