Our second event at the Mojave Sportsman Club took place this past weekend up in Kingman, AZ.  The first event only had a total of 7 shooters on the line, so the pre-registered list of 19 had all three of the instructors, AZRedhawk44, Hoss and myself, very excited.

Of the 19 pre-regs, 4 didn't arrive, but we had a total of 9 walk-ons!  Most from the Kingman area, some from as far away as Vegas, NE Arizona and Apache Junction.  Both days had great weather, just a bit chilly in the morning, but wonderful all weekend long.

After the welcome, safety rules, line commands and such, we got the shooters down on the line in the #5 bay of the club.  Youngest on the line this weekend was Sierra at 6 years old, shooting away with her Cricket.  Several ARs, an AK and a Mosin-Nagant brought out specifically for the ball and dummy drill.

1st and 2nd strikes of the match done over lunchtime by Redhawk and myself, then back to the points of instruction.  We had to shut down a bit early since the range was working on winter hours, so we finished up the history on Sunday.

Two new Riflemen joined the ranks this weekend.  Luca, our local boots-on-the-ground and major motivator for getting Appleseed to Kingman, shot a 213 and immediately followed it up with a 214.  Larry from Vegas came down just for Saturday bound and determined to get the patch as this was to be his 4th event.  And he got it on the first AQT of the weekend with a 228.  Many scores were in the upper 150s to one or two just a few points shy of 210.

Increasing the turn-out from 7 at our first event to 24 at our second shows that northwest AZ has GREAT Appleseed potential.  We're in contact with the range liaisons to get more events on the schedule for 2010.  Many of the participants this past weekend are club members and expressed their desire to have more.

Persist!

I'd like to thank all the Kingman folks for having us at their range... it's a great facility and given the Rifleman potential in the area, we need to plan ahead next time to make full use of the 1000 yard real distance facilities available for shooting out to 500 yards.

There was a lot of enthusiasm for the program from our participants and I look forward to working with several of you in the future as potential instructors in training.

It was also a pleasure to work with Hoss and his sons... they were very helpful with line setup / tear down and were stellar examples of safety on the firing line.
