Title: Questions about adaptive shooters; Adaptive Appleseed
Post by: Unbridled Liberty on January 20, 2015, 07:44:24 AM
It's been pretty quiet here in the Adaptive Appleseed area.  I just wanted to remind shooters, instructors and shoot bosses that if you have a question about an adaptive shooter or accomodations, this is the place to get the answers!  There is also tons of great information in past threads.

It's an active adaptive season in Florida!  We had 3 adaptive shooters at our last Appleseed in December. I was especially proud to work with a double amputee who was able to shoot a Rifleman's score for the first time!

The winter months are the best time of the year in Florida for adaptive shooters, as the weather is the most tolerable.  The June through October dates are brutal, with high 100% relative humidities and near 100 degree temperatures!

The angle of the bench, the height of the bench, and the height of the power chair were all crucial for the adaptive shooter who shot score.  Also, explaining the effect of any incursion of the black blob if the eye alignment was not correct on the scope also made a huge difference.  This is really teaching sight alignment relative to using a scope.  Drawing a sketch of what the effect of the "black blob" would be for various possibilities was very effective.  Group sizes shrank from 2 inches to under 1 inch.

For Valentine's Day 2015 in Palm Bay, FL, we had two returning adaptive shooters, and one new adaptive shooter.  Two new Adaptive Appleseed Riflemen were discovered!

Winter is Adaptive Appleseed time in Florida!  The weather is mild, and new theories are being developed relative to power chair heights and shooting position angles!  The summers are brutal, and Adaptive Shooters simply cannot tolerate the heat that time of year.
